<p>Position Summary</p> <p>Entry-level: The entry level work involves the routine processing of criminal history information related to the Carry Conceal Weapon (CCW) and Handgun Hotline (HGH) programs for the Division of Law Enforcement Services Crime Information Bureau (CIB) Firearms Unit. At this level, the incumbent will receive training to develop the skills to apply state and federal laws, rules, regulations, administrative codes, and standards required to perform the specialized reviews for the issuance of licenses and certification cards to carry concealed weapons and approval of firearm purchases. This position will assist other experienced staff or a supervisor; perform routine administrative tasks and provide customer service for routine background checks. This position will perform work under close progressing to limited supervision.</p> <p>Senior Level: The Bureau's responsibilities include the management, maintenance, and access to the Wisconsin Consolidated Criminal History Database and access to other criminal justice databases. Criminal justice database access is utilized to perform multiple responsibilities of the CIB, including maintenance of the database, conducting background checks, case research, issuance of licenses and certification cards to carry concealed weapons (CCW), and approval of firearms purchases from licensed firearms dealers in accordance with state statutes, administrative code, federal regulations, and department policies/procedures. The Firearms Unit's primary responsibilities include the administration of Wisconsin's Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) and Handgun Hotline (HGH) programs in accordance with state statutes, administrative code, federal regulations, and department policies/procedures. This position works under the general supervision of the Justice Program Supervisor.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>The Justice Program Associate Entry position is in pay schedule/range 02-11. The starting pay is $22.31 per hour. The Justice Program Associate Senior position is in pay schedule/range 02-12. The starting pay is $ 24.12 per hour. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.</p> <p>Job Details</p> <p>This is an in-person position with the possibility to work remotely 20% of the time after successful completion of training and probation. This position will be filled at the Entry or Senior level.</p> <p>Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement.</p> <p>The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.</p> <p>A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Please address the following in your resume and/or letter of qualifications.</p> <p>Minimally qualified applicants must have education, training and/or experience in the following:</p> <ul> <li>Representing an organization to the public, customers, government or other external sources while answering phones and responding in writing. </li><li>Performing various administrative activities including but not limited to maintaining information files and processing paperwork. </li><li>Utilizing Microsoft Office programs, database programs, and general office equipment. </li><li>Using fact-finding or investigative skills to solve problems. </li></ul> <p>In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have a combination of the following:</p> <ul> <li>Experience working in the TIME system, Federal, and Wisconsin Consolidated Criminal History database. </li><li>Experience applying state, local, federal laws and regulations as it pertains to criminal background information database. </li><li>Providing customer service and account maintenance to online account users. </li></ul> <p>How To Apply</p> <p>Apply online!
