<p>Position Title Campus Safety Officer Location Appleton Department Campus Safety Position Type Staff Position Description & Qualifications</p> <p>Reports to: Director of Campus Services/Assistant Director of Campus Safety</p> <p>Location: Appleton Campus</p> <p>Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)</p> <p>Hours of Work: This position will work 7:00am - 5:00pm, Sunday - Wednesday.</p> <p>Primary Objective:</p> <p>Responsible for protecting Lawrence University students, staff, visitors, property, and buildings from fire, theft, vandalism, and other hazardous conditions.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform walking and motorized patrol of university property, being of service, and giving assistance when requested. </li><li>Safety of students, faculty, and staff </li><li>Checking and locking/unlocking doors on campus at predesignated times </li><li>Student access to buildings after hours </li><li>Safety/security related matters including lock problems, burned out lights, storm damage, maintenance problems, etc. </li><li>Vandalism on campus </li><li>Breaking and entering into any university property </li><li>Relaying emergency calls to proper person and/or agencies </li><li>Parking violations and enforcement </li><li>Complaints (noise, suspicious activities/persons, theft/loss, etc.) </li><li>Escorts to students, faculty, and staff via walking or vehicle </li><li>Entering Work Orders into database </li><li>Monthly Fire System Testing </li><li>Monthly Fire Extinguisher Inspections </li><li>Minor Maintenance </li></ul> <p>Writing reports:</p> <ul> <li>Daily logs </li><li>Incident reports </li><li>Fire Alarm reports </li><li>Theft/loss report </li><li>Alarm report </li><li>Work Orders </li><li>Campus lighting </li><li>Safety Issues </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Working Relationships:</p> <p>Daily direction will be provided by the Security Night Shift Supervisor and/or Director of Security. Interact with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Work in conjunction with the RHD on Duty, Assistant Dean of Students, and the Dean of Students when applicable. Interact with the Facility Services staff to help resolve mechanical problems on campus. Interact with the Safety Coordinator to assist with monthly fire system testing and monthly fire extinguisher inspections.</p> <p>Equipment Used:</p> <ul> <li>Telephone </li><li>Mobile communication equipment </li><li>Security vehicle (truck) </li><li>Computer/Laptop/PDA </li><li>Automatic Defibrillator </li><li>General tools; Wrench, screwdriver, hammer, pliers, and etc. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Must have minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Must be willing to work weekends, in all types of weather, and holidays. </li><li>Must be able to walk up to 9 hours of a 10-hour shift. </li><li>Must be able to ascend/descend stairs up to 3 hours of a 10-hour shift. </li><li>Must be able to move quickly across campus by either walking quickly or running. </li><li>Must be able to lift 40 lbs. </li><li>Working knowledge of Microsoft software including Word and Excel. </li><li>Sensitivity for confidentiality of materials/information processed. </li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Skills and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Investigative skills </li><li>Crisis Management skills or working knowledge. </li><li>Knowledge of ReportExec incident reporting software or similar applications. </li><li>Working knowledge of door access software. </li><li>Good judgment with the ability to make sound decisions. </li><li>CPR/First Aid/Defibrillator certification or ability to become certified within one year of employment. </li><li>Previous experience in loss prevention, criminal justice, or security is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Employment Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must have successful completion of criminal and MVR background check, meet University Authorized Driver Policy requirements, pre-employment physical, and favorable completion of reference checks. </li><li>Must have valid driver's license and must complete campus safe driving training session before driving any campus vehicles. </li><li>Will wear a university supplied uniform. </li><li>Available to work overtime when needed (i.e., providing security for special programs, athletic events, and in case of disaster). </li><li>Must be willing to attend organizational meetings as required. </li></ul> <p>We encourage applications from individuals who will help us create a more inclusive Lawrence by: (1) further diversifying the staff; and/or (2) demonstrating experience with successful diversity-related safety initiatives.</p> <p>Posting Detail Information</p> <p>Posting Number S607P Number of Vacancies 1 Posting Date Best Consideration Date Close Date Open Until Filled Special Instructions Summary Anticipated Number of Hours per Week 40</p>
