This position is an integral part of the educational team because of the support given to the students to promote achievement and success while in school.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or above. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work successfully with children and adults. </li><li>Ability to perform assigned duties. Ability to work collaboratively and follow directions. </li><li>Understanding of child growth and development as applied to the diverse needs of students. </li><li>Knowledge and ability to use technology and related software. </li><li>Good interpersonal skills. </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Able to pass the criminal history review and S414. </li></ul> <p>Job Goal:</p> <ul> <li>To assist the classroom teacher by working with individual or small groups of students to provide them with educational, physical and emotional support. </li></ul> <p>Performance Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Supports and assists the classroom teacher in the use of all print and electronic materials for instruction. </li><li>Provides academic assistance to students under the direction of the classroom teacher. </li><li>Provide prompting, cueing, and redirecting student participation to the tasks assigned. </li><li>Helps students who are absent or who need additional assistance with work assignments. </li><li>Works with individual children or small groups in re-teaching, reinforcing and reviewing after the teacher(s) has (have) provided the initial instruction. </li><li>Supports the teacher(s) disciplinary strategies and monitors the classroom if the teacher leaves for brief periods. </li><li>Provides direct assistance to classroom teachers in maintaining a neat, orderly classroom and assisting in programs such as health/physical education and related arts. </li><li>Adapt to classroom activities and assignments to serve the purpose of reinforcing classroom objectives. </li><li>Arranges and supervises indoor and outdoor activities. </li><li>Attends meetings and training programs as required by the Principal. </li><li>Observe students for changes in behavior or physical health and report observations to the teacher. </li><li>Performs clerical duties including taking attendance, typing, copying and keeping records of non-confidential data. </li><li>Assists in activities of self-care for students. </li><li>Monitors behavior of students in the lunchroom. </li><li>Ensure all activities conform to building and district guidelines </li><li>Maintain confidentiality specific to students and families </li><li>Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch and/or field trips as assigned.Willingness to support students with behavior plan that may include such actions as biting, hitting, punching. </li><li>Prepares bulletin boards. </li><li>Must be physically able to bend and lift to assist students with toileting, feeding and ambulating skills as needed. </li><li>May assist in maintaining decorum in the cafeteria, playground, study halls, gym, and locker rooms. </li><li>Supervises children to and from the buses as required. </li><li>Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the principal or designee. </li></ul> <p>Technology Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Proficient in software applications related to role, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, Frontline, and Genesis Employee Portal and Student Information System </li></ul> <p>Evaluation of Performance</p> <ul> <li>Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education policy. </li><li>Physical Demands </li><li>Paraprofessionals may, at any time, be reassigned to another location or student(s) based on district and student needs. </li><li>The physical demands of this position include but are not limited to bending, pushing, and moving. </li><li>Staff members must be able to walk for extended distances and accompany students as needed. lifting may include supporting students during toileting or moving from one space to another. </li><li>Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment and classroom learning tools. </li><li>Personal care for students may be required, this includes but is not limited to, feeding, toileting, other tasks involving cleanliness for a student. </li><li>Moving quickly may be required to support students who may elope. </li><li>Clarity of vision at varying distances to monitor student's behavior during classroom activities. </li><li>Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities may also be required. </li><li>The physical demands described in this job description are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. </li><li>Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment</p> <ul> <li>10-month contract, renewed annually.
