<p>HIGH SCHOOL BAND/MUSIC TEACHER</p> <p>As defined in N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-9 Instructional certificates</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Evidence of earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university</p> </li><li> <p>Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate in Music or eligibility for the same</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated knowledge of music education, instrumental pedagogy, and effective teaching methods</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to develop and direct comprehensive band programs (e.g., concert, marching, pep)</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to create and maintain a positive and structured rehearsal and classroom environment</p> </li><li> <p>Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills</p> </li><li> <p>Commitment to the musical and personal development of high school students</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with colleagues, administration, and community members</p> </li><li> <p>Professional demeanor in attitude and appearance</p> </li><li> <p>Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status</p> </li><li> <p>Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver, or the candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment</p> </li></ul> <p>DIRECTLY REPORTS TO: Principal / Vice Principal / Designated Administrator</p> <p>JOB GOAL:</p> <p>To deliver a comprehensive instrumental music education program that fosters student growth in musical skill, performance, discipline, and appreciation; to cultivate a strong, inclusive band culture that supports school spirit and community engagement; and to maintain high standards of excellence in musicianship and student character.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Instructional Planning and Delivery:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Develops and implements lesson plans aligned with New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Visual and Performing Arts and district goals</p> </li><li> <p>Provides individualized and group instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs and instrumental proficiency levels</p> </li><li> <p>Plans and conducts rehearsals that promote student engagement, ensemble skills, and musical literacy</p> </li><li> <p>Selects appropriate, challenging, and diverse musical repertoire for performance</p> </li><li> <p>Integrates music theory, history, and appreciation into the instructional program</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares students for and organizes public performances, festivals, concerts, and community events</p> </li></ul> <p>Classroom and Rehearsal Environment:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Establishes and maintains a structured, respectful, and inclusive rehearsal/classroom environment</p> </li><li> <p>Develops student leadership and fosters pride and responsibility within the ensemble</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains accurate attendance and performance records, including instrument inventories and student progress</p> </li><li> <p>Manages student behavior according to school policies and classroom norms</p> </li><li> <p>Supervises students during in-school and out-of-school band-related activities</p> </li></ul> <p>Ensemble and Program Leadership:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Directs marching band, concert band, and other ensembles as assigned</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates and oversees participation in parades, pep rallies, football games, competitions, and seasonal concerts</p> </li><li> <p>Develops and maintains the annual music department budget in consultation with administration</p> </li><li> <p>Oversees instrument maintenance, inventory, and repair needs</p> </li><li> <p>Works with booster organizations and community partners to support the band program</p> </li></ul> <p>Parent and Community Involvement:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Maintains regular communication with parents regarding student progress, events, and expectations</p> </li><li> <p>Encourages family and community involvement in the band program</p> </li><li> <p>Builds relationships with community and regional music organizations</p> </li></ul> <p>Professional Responsibilities and Collaboration:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Participates in faculty meetings, committees, and school functions</p> </li><li> <p>Pursues professional development aligned with current best practices in music education</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborates with other arts and academic staff to support interdisciplinary learning and school-wide initiatives</p> </li><li> <p>Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies</p> </li></ul> <p>Other Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Completes all required reports and documentation in a timely and accurate manner</p> </li><li> <p>Performs additional duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned</p> </li></ul> <p>SALARY: Based on the negotiated DEA teacher's guide</p> <p>EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: 10 Months</p> <p>EVALUATION: Based upon the negotiated DEA teacher's document</p> <p>DELSEA HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.
