<p>An opportunity to Inspire, Challenge, and Empower!</p> <p>Posting Information: We are currently hiring a Health Room Para Tech for Choice High School beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. Open until filled. Applicants are encouraged to apply by May 22nd, 2025 for best consideration.</p> <p>Interview Process: Applicants are encouraged to apply by the deadline provided above. If selected for an interview, you will be invited to complete an Asynchronous Virtual Interview. Candidates chosen for a second round interview will participate in an in-person interviews at a date to be determined.</p> <p>Schedule: 7 hours per day; M-F. This position is temporary for the 25/26 school year, but may be extended into future school years based on student enrollment, funding, and program need.</p> <p>Location: Choice High School</p> <p>Salary: $25.97 - $29.02 per hour, depending on experience. Salary Range is based on the 24/25 ESP Salary Schedule.</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (overtime eligible)</p> <p>Benefits: 12 sick leave days; Up to 12 paid holidays; 6 personal leave days (to be deducted from sick leave); 5 bereavement leave days; (leave to be pro-rated by employee's scheduled work days for the school year); health insurance benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance; other fringe benefits as allowed under under School Board Policies and Procedures and the Educational Support Personnel Collective Bargaining Agreement.</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>The Health Room Para Tech at Choice High School supports the Shelton School District's Strategic Plan and the CHOICE Middle and High School Strategic Plan by assisting the school nurse in maintaining a safe, organized, and professional health environment. Responsibilities include administering medications and performing other delegated health-related tasks in compliance with state laws and district policies. This position requires close collaboration with the school nurse, administrators, staff, and families to ensure student health needs are met efficiently and with care.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Completed two (2) years (72 quarter credits) of study at an institution of higher learning OR AA degree from an approved institution, OR completion of the ETS ParaPro Assessment with a passing score. </li><li>High school graduation or equivalent. </li><li>Ability to pass a Federal criminal background check. </li><li>Adhere to all district and cooperative health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. </li><li>Approved medication class, initial training, and yearly review of medication standards and skills. </li><li>Current Hepatitis B and Tetanus vaccinations. </li><li>Current CPR and First Aid certification. </li><li>Basic understanding of medical terminology. </li><li>Effective oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Demonstrates high energy and professionalism. </li><li>Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. </li><li>Dealing with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. </li><li>Read a variety of materials with understanding. </li><li>Ability to complete 28 hours of District provided training within the first school year of employment as required by statute. </li><li>Successful experiencing working with students with developmental disabilities (preferred, not required). </li><li>Ability and willingness to learn and implement new strategies and techniques. </li><li>Possession of excellent communication skills including active listening and two-way communication. </li><li>Ability and willingness to maintain an upbeat, positive, and collaborative demeanor. </li><li>Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality and tact in all aspects of employment. </li><li>Ability and willingness to incorporate lightheartedness and humor into the workplace. </li><li>Ability and willingness to make independent decisions as well as work collaboratively with other staff. </li><li>Ability and willingness to admit faults and learn from mistakes. </li><li>Ability and willingness to apply policies, procedures, statutes, and regulations accurately. </li><li>Ability and willingness to effectively and efficiently perform work in a fast paced environment with competing demands through organization, attention to detail, and prioritization. </li><li>Ability and willingness to work with diverse students, staff, and families. </li><li>Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations. </li><li>Ability and willingness to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Distributes medication to students as prescribed by the health care provider. </li><li>Counts and records medication when received and on regularly scheduled days. </li><li>Documents and maintains required medication records. </li><li>Communicates with parent to assure proper procedures are followed in relation to medication. </li><li>Communicates with school nurse regarding changes and verification of medication. </li><li>Oversees security of medication. </li><li>Oversees disposal of unused or discontinued medication. </li><li>Maintains inventory of required medication related forms. </li><li>Inputs medication data into the computer program. </li><li>Reports medication problems or errors to the school nurse. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned by the principal such as: </li><li>a. Performs hearing and vision screenings per building request. </li><li>b. Assists the school nurse with record keeping of health screening results. </li><li>c. Assists the school nurse with lice documentation and reporting to the parent. </li><li>d. Assist the nurse with computer input and review of immunization dates in compliance with the state law. </li><li>e. Inputs data from the health log into the computer database. </li></ul>
