<p>Position: STEAM Lab Instructor</p> <p>Location: 13301 41st Rd. Flushing, NY 11355</p> <p>Salary Range: $40 per hour</p> <p>Hours: 10 hours per week</p> <p>Employment Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt</p> <p>About Us</p> <p>Founded in 1876, The Boys' Club of New York (BCNY) is a youth development organization with the mission to empower boys and young men, ages 7 to 21, by providing effective programs and a supportive community. BCNY provides evidence-based programs to address the evolving social, emotional, health, creative, educational, and vocational needs of our members in meaningful, lasting ways. BCNY develops programs to cultivate positive qualities in members and strives to continually deepen and broaden our impact.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>We are a COVID-19 proactive organization that follows applicable health and safety regulations to help protect our members and staff. The STEAM Lab Teacher is responsible for leading activities and projects in the STEAM Lab for small groups of upper elementary, middle school, and early high school students. STEAM Lab activities can range from 3-D printing, circuits, basic electronics, coding, and art and design. The Teacher will be responsible for bringing curriculum and project ideas to the STEAM Lab in addition to using BCNY curricula.</p> <p>Job Requirements</p> <p>Frontline employees are not required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, BCNY strongly encourages all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and obtain a booster shot.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Effectively manage STEAM lab for 8 to 12 boys or young men </li><li>Engage members in fun and relevant lessons based on established curriculum and specific classroom needs </li><li>Use provided curriculum or develop appropriate STEAM curriculum as needed to engage members in project-based learning activities </li><li>Work with the Education Director to update STEAM Lab activities, projects, and curricula </li><li>Reinforce positive student behavior and clubhouse rules; maintain a positive relationship with all members, families and staff </li><li>Communicate with Education Director to discuss member progress, needs, and concerns. </li><li>Attend required department meetings and professional development trainings </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Minimum 3 years college credits in STEAM or other relevant field; Bachelors degree preferred </li><li>At least one year of experience teaching STEAM-related programing to school-aged (middle and high school) students in a group setting preferred </li><li>Experience with Lego Mindstorm, Robotics, 3-D printers, and printing applications preferred </li><li>Familiarity with electronics and circuits </li><li>Knowledge of coding applications and programs for students (Scratch) </li><li>Strong verbal and communication skills </li><li>Understanding of strengths based approaches to youth development </li></ul> <p>What We Offer</p> <ul> <li>PTO: Sick time only </li></ul> <p>The Boys' Club of New York is an equal opportunity employer</p> <p>and makes employment decisions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status, or any other status protected by law.
