<p>Position Description</p> <p>CANAL WINCHESTER LOCAL SCHOOLS</p> <p>TITLE: DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED required. </li><li>Bachelor's Degree preferred. </li><li>Background in school transportation operations preferred. </li><li>Ability to obtain certificates as determined necessary by the district which may include a class B CDL license and other bus driver certification requirements. </li><li>Ability to become first aid and CPR certified. </li><li>Must have successful BCI & FBI background checks. </li><li>Must have a valid Ohio driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. </li><li>Satisfactory work history as verified through professional references. </li><li>Completion of annual participation in a minimum of four hours of in-service related to school transportation, in school transportation-related training. </li><li>Completion of the classroom portion of the Ohio Preservice Driver Training Program at least once every six years pursuant to paragraph (A)(2) of rule 3301-83-10 of the Ohio Administrative Code. Newly assigned administrators shall complete within one year of appointment to the position. </li><li>Stays calm under frequent interruptions, resolves issues proactively, and responds effectively to student, parent, and staff inquiries or concerns. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations related to traffic and school bus transportation, including the Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code, FMCSA regulations, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. </li><li>Strong organizational skills. </li><li>Ability to use Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. </li><li>Ability to learn to use routing computer systems, video equipment systems and other systems to obtain student transportation information as needed. </li><li>Ability to learn appropriate dispatching policies and practices within a reasonable amount of time. </li><li>Ability to become familiar with District roads and learn about transportation equipment and student needs. </li></ul> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for the development of and overseeing the CW Promise (strategic plan) for the transportation department. </li><li>Direct daily operations of the transportation department by monitoring and evaluating the transportation operations for safety and operational efficiency. </li><li>Supervise and evaluate fleet maintenance operations with specific attention to safety inspections. </li><li>Establish performance standards and supervise operational care, service and maintenance of all vehicles within the department. </li><li>Establish all regular bus routes, schedules and stops and maintain routing software to develop route maps for drivers, schools, etc. as appropriate. </li><li>Coordinate student transportation activities with school officials. </li><li>Recommend procurement of additional or replacement buses and disposal of old units. </li><li>Responsible for maintaining and monitoring compliance with federal and state rules and regulations and Board Policies as they relate to transportation. </li><li>Track, monitor and approve expenditures of department funds. </li><li>Responsible for forwarding approved time sheets to the Treasurer's Office in a timely manner to meet district payroll schedules. </li><li>Promote a productive environment for transportation staff and students by recognizing and solving problems and encouraging teamwork, creativity and understanding. </li><li>Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate transportation personnel and make recommendations related to employment and termination. </li><li>Work with Transportation staff to establish processes to assess needs and identify plans and procedures to improve driver and department performances. </li><li>Work with Principals, Bus Drivers, Bus Aides, students and parents regarding discipline or other issues. </li><li>Responsible for transportation data to be submitted to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (i.e. T-1, T-2, T-8, T-9, and T-10 etc.). </li><li>Establish and maintain good public relations. </li><li>Meets all health screening requirements as requested. </li><li>The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance or anything that impairs, in the workplace throughout employment in the district. </li><li>Evaluate safety of road conditions during inclement weather and work collaboratively with the Superintendent to make recommendations for school delays and/or closures. </li><li>Attend required workshops and seminars as deemed by the O.D.E.W. Pre-Service instructor and Canal Winchester Local Schools. </li><li>Develop recommendations for the Superintendent. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul>
