<p>Purpose:</p> <p>To provide unskilled and diversified duties in connection with the general maintenance and routine building custodial and janitorial tasks. Maintains facilities, buildings and surrounding grounds in a clean and neat condition</p> <p>Essential Tasks of the Position:</p> <p>Performs routine custodial, maintenance and grounds keeping tasks</p> <ul> <li>Cleans and polishes floors located in storerooms, corridors, elevators, stairwells, lavatories and other areas by sweeping, dry mopping, scrubbing, waxing and polishing, using a variety of hand implements and equipment including brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers and floor buffers </li><li>Maintains rest rooms by sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, disinfecting and deodorizing lavatories, urinals, toilet bowl, sinks, mirrors and fountains </li><li>Maintains grounds including pruning shrubs and trees, reseeding lawns, spraying insecticide and removing snow and ice </li><li>Performs minor buildings/grounds maintenance, including inserting window panes, oiling or lubricating hinges and adjusting various pieces of cleaning equipment </li><li>Performs routine custodial tasks including emptying waste baskets, washing windows, emptying trash compactors, vacuuming rugs and carpets, stripping wax, assisting tenants in moving furniture and similar tasks </li><li>Applies appropriate solvents and solutions including detergents, soaps, scouring powders, waxes and polishes </li><li>Performs a number of routine security functions including checking and securing designated offices and buildings at specific times of the day/night </li></ul> <p>Performs general cleaning, custodial and routine upkeep of properties, grounds and common areas as assigned</p> <ul> <li>Assumes responsibility for the safe, sanitary and attractive maintenance of grounds, common areas within assigned locations </li><li>Performs custodial tasks throughout agency properties, common areas (community rooms), offices and maintenance shops </li><li>Responds to work orders issued for minor repairs and general upkeep of assigned areas </li><li>Accounts for basic supplies, materials, tools and equipment stored at areas of assignment </li><li>Operates agency vehicles (up to 2 ton capacity), as assigned </li></ul> <p>Secondary Tasks of the Position:</p> <ul> <li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Position Requirements and Qualifications:</p> <p>Education Level</p> <ul> <li>Ability to understand English language to an acceptable level for productivity standards, required </li><li>High school diploma or GED, preferred </li></ul> <p>Experience in Related Field</p> <ul> <li>No prior experience, required </li><li>1-2 years' experience in maintenance or construction, preferred </li><li>Prior experience working in public housing setting, preferred </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, skills, abilities, licenses and certifications</p> <ul> <li>Ability to maintain confidentiality in all assignments as mandated </li><li>Ability to work harmoniously with other agency personnel </li><li>Ability to relate to and interact with elderly/disabled and family residents in low and moderate income housing settings </li><li>Ability to be flexible and perform work under time pressure </li><li>Ability and willingness to learn appropriate skills, accept responsibility and to complete assignments, as directed </li><li>Working knowledge of methods and practices used in janitorial work and maintenance of buildings </li><li>Working knowledge of proper use of a variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions and solvents </li><li>Working knowledge of English language </li><li>Ability to read signs and follow verbal and written instructions </li><li>Ability to move heavy furniture, supplies and equipment </li><li>Ability to use common cleaning tools and equipment </li><li>Ability to operate lawn and snow equipment </li><li>RI Driver's License, preferred </li></ul> <p>Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm</p>
