<p>Job Type: Temporary</p> <p>Time Type: Full time</p> <p>Work Shift: Day (United States of America)</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you're making a difference in people's lives.</p> <p>Audiology Extern- 4th year</p> <p>Deadline to apply is September 17, 2025.</p> <p>Position would start summer of 2026.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Audiology Externship at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center provides a fourth-year audiology student opportunity to participate in diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology care to the adult population. The Extern will work alongside clinical audiologists, all of whom have earned a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Using clinical judgment, select and implement most appropriate evaluation methods for diverse patient needs. Determine if the patient is a hearing aid candidate or would benefit from assistive listening devices. Provide care to patients with implantable hearing technologies including cochlear implants, BAHA and Esteem implants. Perform and interpret electrophysiologic assessment including VEMP, EcochG and ABR. Document all pertinent information in aChart (audiology) TIMS office based system (hearing aid center).</p> <p>Essential Duties & Responsibilitiesincluding but not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Reviews results and recommendations to patient regarding diagnostic tests and rehabilitative options </li><li>Determines if the patient is a hearing aid candidate or would benefit from assistive listening devices </li><li>Performs Diagnostic assessment of hearing loss and hearing rehabilitation options </li><li>Exercises clinical judgment in selecting and implementing most appropriate evaluation methods for diverse patient needs </li><li>Greets patients, identify oneself as an audiologist and explains hearing and balance testing </li><li>Selectsappropriate hearing aid device for patient based on audiologic test results. </li><li>Provides quality ear mold impressions for hearing aids, swim plugs and custom noise protection. </li><li>Providesappropriate programming of selected amplification device. </li><li>Provides care to patients with implantable hearing technologies including cochlear implants, BAHA and Esteem implants </li><li>Performs and interpretselectrophysiologic assessment including VEMP, EcochG and ABR </li><li>Obtains telemetry measures in operating room for cochlear implant procedures </li><li>Works collaboratively with Otolaryngology nursing staff to provide excellent patient care. </li><li>Reviews abnormal test results with referring physician </li><li>Provides written educational material and reviews with patient/family </li><li>Provides occasional cross coverage at all audiology sites, including Burlington, Peabody and Lexington. </li><li>Providespatient with written and verbal instructions regarding battery use, care and maintenance of the hearing aid. </li><li>Troubleshoots repairs devices if possible. </li><li>Determines if hearing aid needs to be returned to manufacturer for repair. </li><li>Addresses any issues or concerns the patient or family member may have regarding their hearing aids </li><li>Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities. </li><li>Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies. </li><li>Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic. </li><li>Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients. </li><li>Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment. </li><li>Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards. </li><li>Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities. </li><li>Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education. </li><li>Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:.</p> <p>Education:4th year Audiology Graduate Student</p> <p>Licensure, Certification, Registration:</p> <p>Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Excellent verbal skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent patient centric skills</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment</p> </li></ol> <p>Experience:</p> <p>None required</p> <p>As a health care organization, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to care for and protect our patients, our colleagues and our communities.
