<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College and Conservatory invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Assistant/Associate Dean for Academic Support beginning on July 1, 2025.</p> <p>The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, founded in 1865, is the nation's oldest continuously operating conservatory, and the only major music school in the country linked with a preeminent liberal arts college. Students are enrolled in undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Music in performance, jazz studies, composition, technology in music and related arts, recording arts and production, music theater, and musicology. Oberlin also offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Music in conducting (as part of a five-year BM/MM program), the Master of Music in performance on historical instruments, the Master of Fine Arts in piano technology, and artist diplomas.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Reporting to the Dean of the Conservatory, the Assistant/Associate Dean for Academic Support is responsible for programming related to fostering student achievement and academic success, including wellness. The Assistant/Associate Dean works alongside the Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs on matters related to student advising, new-student orientation, and academic-support programming, as well as serving as a resource for Conservatory students and faculty on matters related to diversity and inclusion and serving as the Conservatory liaison to the Center for Intercultural Engagement.</p> <p>The Assistant/Associate Dean works with a diverse group of students, parents, faculty, and staff in both the Conservatory and the College of Arts and Sciences, and serves as one of the primary resources for the student body in fostering a holistic approach to student achievement and academic success.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Work with the Associate Dean of Student Academic Affairs to oversee and coordinate student advising for approximately 550 Conservatory and Double Degree students. Advising includes: assisting students to navigate academic challenges; monitoring progress toward graduation; approving studio change requests, change of status, course overload/underload, transfer credits, private readings, exceptions to graduation requirements, leaves, and withdrawals; graduate school and career counseling; etc. Carry portfolio of individual advisees as necessary. </li><li>Confer and coordinate on student-related matters with offices across campus, including the offices of the Dean of Students, the Office of the Registrar, Counseling and Psychological Services , the Center for Student Success, the Office for Disability and Access, Campus Safety, and other offices as needed. </li><li>Participate in weekly College and Conservatory students-of-concern meetings. </li><li>Serve on the Conservatory Academic Standing Committee and other relevant committees as assigned. </li><li>Serve as a resource for Conservatory students and faculty on matters related to diversity and inclusion; serve as the Conservatory liaison to the Center for Intercultural Engagement. </li><li>Serve as the Conservatory's deputy Title IX coordinator and liaise closely with the Office for Institutional Equity. </li><li>Oversee the programming and orientation of the Conservatory Peer Advising Leaders (ConPALS) Program. </li><li>Coordinate with the Chair and Administrative Assistant of the Jazz Department regarding the administration of and programming for the Jazz Pre-Orientation Program. </li><li>Liaise with the Office of the Dean of Students and the Academic Advising Resource Center (AARC) to access tools, programming, monitoring, and reporting of student concerns. </li><li>Collaborate with other student support personnel to address a wide range of student concerns. </li><li>Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Conservatory. </li></ul> <p>Marginal Job Functions Required Qualifications</p> <p>? Masters degree or equivalent professional experience;</p> <p>? 5 years' experience in higher education;</p> <p>? Demonstrated experience in academic advising;</p> <p>? Highly effective oral and written communication skills;</p> <p>?
