<p>About the Job</p> <p>Teaching Specialist - Undergraduate Education (PES Department)</p> <p>College of Liberal Arts - University of Minnesota</p> <p>The Undergraduate Education (UGE) PES Department in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) at</p> <p>the University of Minnesota is seeking to create a pool of qualified applicants for temporary,</p> <p>part-time Teaching Specialist positions. These roles fill course needs that cannot be staffed by</p> <p>regular faculty.</p> <p>This posting does not represent an active vacancy but will be used to identify instructors on an</p> <p>as-needed basis for the 2025-26 academic year, including potential openings in Fall 2025</p> <p>(August-December) and/or Spring 2026 (January-May). Selected candidates will be</p> <p>supervised by the Lead Academic Advisor in the President's Emerging Scholars Program.</p> <p>Time Appointment: 100% appointment for assigned course(s)</p> <p>Teaching Specialists will be responsible for:</p> <ul> <li>Instructing undergraduate students in assigned courses </li><li>Holding regular office hours to assist and advise students </li><li>Participating in departmental meetings as relevant </li></ul> <p>Course Details</p> <p>CLA 1005: Introduction to Liberal Arts Learning (Fall - 1 credit)</p> <p>A First-Year Experience (FYE) course combining group discussions, scholarly readings, online</p> <p>media, and a final project. The course helps students navigate college, the workplace, and</p> <p>society, fostering personal excellence, fulfillment, and wellness in a diverse, interconnected</p> <p>world.</p> <ul> <li>Class Time: Wednesdays, 2:30-3:45 p.m. </li><li>Teaching Meetings: Every other Tuesday, 1:00-2:00 p.m. </li></ul> <p>CLA 2005: Introduction to Liberal Education and Responsible Citizenship (Spring - 1</p> <p>credit)</p> <p>An FYE course that builds on CLA's core themes of identity, community, and civic engagement.</p> <p>Through discussion, readings, media, and a memoir project, students explore personal and</p> <p>social responsibility in a culturally inclusive environment.</p> <ul> <li>Class Time: Wednesdays, 2:30-3:45 p.m. </li><li>Teaching Meetings: Every other Tuesday, 1:00-2:00 p.m. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education or a closely related field </li><li>Minimum one year of teaching or mentoring experience </li><li>Broad familiarity with the liberal arts </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including experience </li></ul> <p>supporting individuals with varying identities and backgrounds</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Proficiency with Canvas, Google Suite, and instructional technologies </li><li>At least one year of experience in higher education </li></ul> <p>About the Department</p> <p>About CLA</p> <p>The College of Liberal Arts is the largest college at the University of Minnesota, home to 31</p> <p>academic departments and over 20 research centers.
