<p>POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:General X-Ray:</p> <ul> <li>Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and others who can understand service requirements. </li><li>Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques. </li><li>Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. </li><li>Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions. </li></ul> <p>Mammography:</p> <ul> <li>Competently performs primary screening at the assigned facility. </li><li>Review the patient's medical record to obtain necessary clinical information, including patient history, lab results, and physician orders, and obtain each patient's breast health history. </li><li>Performs scans and identifies breast anatomy, distinguishing normal from abnormal, to establish initial evaluation of images. Adapts imaging techniques to improve screening quality. </li><li>Evaluate the mammographic image for positioning, technique, artifacts, and compression, and repeat images as necessary. Compares requisitions to physician orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy. </li></ul> <p>Both:</p> <ul> <li>Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies. </li><li>Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. </li><li>Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, explaining treatment, and answering questions. </li><li>Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors. </li><li>Minimizes radiation to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, beam-restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors. </li><li>Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart. </li><li>Maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures, developing radiographs, observing radiographic results, and making necessary adjustments. </li><li>Documents patient care services by charting patient and department records and verifying corresponding reports. </li><li>Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. </li></ul> <p>Lead:</p> <ul> <li>Maintains records following various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system. </li><li>Serves as a technical resource, role model, and preceptor for students and staff. Acts as a resource to staff at own facility and throughout the system.
