<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTING ONLY CURRENT SCDPS EMPLOYEES WHO APPLY WILL BE CONSIDERED.</p> <p>THIS POSITION IS ASSIGNED TO THE OFFICE OF SUPPORT SERVICES.</p> <p>Serves as the DPS Fleet Manager responsible for DPS fleet personnel, operations, purchasing, planning and vehicle rotations. Directly responsible for managing OSS fleet functions to include service, vehicle purchasing, production, rotations, inventory control, surplus and administrative functions pertinent to OSS fleet. Under the direct supervision of the Captain of Law Enforcment Logistics and Fleet and through additional direction of the Director of Support Services assists division leadership in planning, coordination and implementation of process and procedures. Assumes all duties and responsibilities in the absence of division leadership as defined.</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for the planning, procurement and deployment of DPS vehicles and equipment from DPS fleet to DPS divisions and individual custodians. Responsible for managing fleet teams and processes to ensure proper execution of the DPS Vehicle Replacement Model under the direction of the Captain of Logistics/Fleet. </li><li>Responsible for inventory control and surplus procedures amongst fleet teams related to DPS vehicles and equipment. Ensures the proper assignment and distribution of parts and equipment occurs between fleet teams. Maintains accurate records through collaboration with DPS fleet inventory control manager and DPS fleet surplus manager. Monitors consumption of goods and failure rates involving equipment, service appointments and manages inventory/orders as necessary. </li><li>Responsible for the direct supervision of DPS fleet team leads and personnel. Provides regular support concerning training requirements, job performance, and personnel development for direct reports and their respective subordinates in collaboration with team leads. </li><li>Responsible for tracking, organization and status of daily DPS fleet operations. This involves the daily management of the schedule, personnel, designating demand work for the day involving vehicle preparations, designations and work deadlines. Prioritizes demand work involving coordinating promotions, hiring, transfers and restructures as defined by existing processes and procedures both internally and externally. </li><li>Responsible for managing essential administrative duties involving vehicle receiving, vehicle registrations, fuel cards and temporary vehicle assignments. Coordinates these administrative functions with DPS divisions, fleet personnel and the Department of Administration. </li><li>Enforces criminal laws, responds to civil unrest, natural disasters and performs other law enforcement duties as deemed necessary. Provides guidance and direction to less experienced law enforcement personnel in the performance of their duties. Responsible for proper use and maintenance of all uniforms, equipment and sensitive items issued by SCDPS. Is accountable for the proper handling of public funds, equipment and evidence. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>State Minimum Requirements - A bachelor's degree and experience supervising law enforcement personnel at a public law enforcement agency.</p> <p>Agency Minimum Requirements</p> <ul> <li>An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable in lieu of a degree. </li><li>Must possess a minimum of six (6) months of continuous service in the rank of SCDPS Sergeant or First Sergeant. </li><li>Must be at least 21 years of age. </li><li>Must possess and maintain SC Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer certifications and applicable DPS law enforcement service certifications. </li><li>Good communication skills, both written and oral are essential for this position. </li><li>Should be familiar with basic warehouse processes. </li><li>Knowledge of agency policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and program services to include asset management, procurement and state fiscal responsibilities. </li><li>Knowledge of federal and state laws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations related to the department and its divisions/programs. </li><li>Directly responsible for managing diverse administrative/management functions pertaining to fleet vehicles, equipment and operations. </li><li>Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with both internal and external partners. </li><li>Responsible for supervision of team leads and program services. </li><li>Must be able to utilize independent judgment and discretion as well as maintain a high level of confidentiality as it relates to sensitive agency issues. </li><li>While this position is generally scheduled for normal business hours, the person must be able to respond in a law enforcement capacity to critical incidents when called upon or to critical situations deemed necessary by supervisory personnel. </li></ul> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>The South Carolina Department of Public Safety is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, pregnancy (including childbirth or related medical conditions), or national origin.
