<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The peer-mentor will be assigned to one section of the courses listed below where they act as a model student during lectures by taking comprehensive notes and staying current regarding due dates for assignments and assessments. Based on student input, the peer-mentor will determine at the conclusion of the first week of the semester when is the best time to offer (3) hours of weekly study group time where they are to facilitate the weekly study groups, answer difficult questions, provide necessary and timely study skills, and act as a peer-mentor providing academic and personal guidance to the students. The three (3) weekly hours of study group time will be broken down into the following: two (2) hours in-person and one (1) hour virtually in a synchronous modality to offer additional flexibility.</p> <p>Peer-mentors will encourage students to define their academic goals and establish a plan for these goals. In addition, the peer-mentor will refer students to school and community resources. To help the students foster a sense of belonging and enhance the college experience the peer-mentor will encourage students to attend various events, workshops, and off-campus visits for the School of Technology, Engineering, and Computing (TEC), Career & Transfer, and for the college.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Conduct weekly study groups for students in their respective embedded course both in-person and virtually to help students understand ideas and concepts. </li><li>Maintain accurate attendance records for weekly study groups. </li><li>Collaborate bi-weekly with faculty to review material and the hurdles students are encountering. </li><li>Assist students with basic study skills including time management, note taking, and test taking. </li><li>Attend relevant events for the program, School of TEC and college. </li><li>Participate in pre-semester training. </li><li>Perform related work as required. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Current Onondaga Community College student in either the Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Technology, or Electromechanical Technology program.</p> </li><li> <p>Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.</p> </li><li> <p>Received a final grade of B+ or higher in one of the following courses:</p> </li><li> <p>CIS-125 Fundamentals of Computer Information Systems</p> </li><li> <p>CSC-111 Fundamentals of Computing 1</p> </li><li> <p>ELM-104 Industrial Electricity 1</p> </li><li> <p>ELT-141 Circuits 1</p> </li><li> <p>Familiar with the Microsoft Office suite & D2L.</p> </li><li> <p>Dependable and have strong organizational skills</p> </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Pay Rate: $15.50 for Fall 2025 semester and $16.00 for Spring 2026 semester.</p> <p>Please contact hr@sunyocc.edu if you have questions.</p> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>Attach a letter of recommendation from a professor or faculty member in the course/discipline.</p>
