<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Franklin & Marshall College is recruiting for a full-time Project Manager/Research Assistant.</p> <p>Job Details:</p> <ul> <li>Location: F&M Campus - Lancaster, PA </li><li>Classification: Full-time, Exempt </li><li>Schedule: 40 hours, Monday - Friday. </li><li>Reports to: Professor of Government, Principal Investigator of F&M Global Barometers </li><li>Department: Government </li></ul> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>The F&M Global Barometers (FMGB), a grant-funded LGBT human rights research project based at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, is looking to hire a full-time Project Manager/Research Assistant (PM/RA). The PM/RA is expected to fulfill the dual responsibilities of overseeing daily operations and contributing to research.</p> <p>The FMGB provide a comprehensive database of LGBTQI+ rights and experiences that is current, accurate and reliable. The project uses quantitative research methods that allow for longitudinal analyses of trends in LGBTQI+ human rights progression or regression. The Global Barometer of Gay Rights (GBGR) tracks gay, lesbian and bisexual rights and privileges; the Global Barometer of Transgender Rights (GBTR) catalogs rights specific to transgender persons; the Global Barometer of Unified LGBT Rights (GBUR) combines the two measures, the GBGR and the GBTR; the Global Barometers LGBTQI+ Perception Index is a survey that gauges LGBTQI+ lived experiences worldwide.</p> <p>To date, the FMGB have sourced data for 204 countries and territories from 2011-2022. The GBGR and the GBTR have been reviewed by partners in over 40 countries. They include grassroots activists, international and local organizations, academic scholars, policy professionals, and human rights experts who have lent valuable insights into local and regional conditions. The 2024 iteration of the GBPI garnered over 38,000 responses in 122 countries.</p> <p>To enable comparative and longitudinal analysis, all countries on all four indexes are scored on a scale from 0-100% and then graded with a corresponding letter grade (A-F) where F (0%) is the most negative and A (100%) the most positive. The FMGB aims to provide activists, policy professionals, and researchers with a comprehensive, objective database on global LGBTQI+ human rights.</p> <p>In conjunction with the Principal Investigator (PI), the Project Manager/Research Assistant (PM/RA) for the F&M Global Barometers (FMGB) is responsible for designing, planning, and executing the objectives and research products of the FMGB in an efficient and timely manner. The PM/RA works with the PI to envision the project's scope, direct the communications strategy, assign tasks to personnel to complete goals, and acts as a liaison between team members, external collaborators, college administrators, grant managers, and external vendors.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Research: The Research Assistant (RA) is expected to be involved in all four FMGB research products: The Global Barometer of Gay Rights (GBGR), the F&M Global Barometer of Transgender Rights (GBTR), the F&M Global Barometer of Unified LGBT Rights (GBUR), and the F&M Global Barometers LGBTQI+ Perception Index. Specifically, the RA is expected to:</p> </li><li> <p>Code, review, and analyze data from all four projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Expand existing products by selecting criteria for expansion, setting parameters for coding, and conducting preliminary trial runs of new items.</p> </li><li> <p>Contribute to the ideation, design, set up, execution, finalization, launch, and dissemination of new academic and policy research products, including the Working Paper Series (basis for future scholarly articles) and Snapshot Series (bite-sized reports).</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain databases and establish protocols to secure datasets.</p> </li><li> <p>Onboard, train, develop, and direct, research personnel, including semester undergraduate researchers, summer research scholars, full-time research assistants, and contracted research consultants.</p> </li><li> <p>Project management: The Project Manager (PM) is expected to contribute to all operational, short-term, and long-term aspects of the four main projects listed above.</p> </li><li> <p>Execute project cycles, from initiation to completion, for multiple concurrent projects, expand existing projects, and steer new projects using project integration management to create a sustainable and complementary F&M Global Barometers project portfolio.</p> </li><li> <p>Adaptively develop new plans and processes to tackle unexpected challenges associated with the formation of a new project.</p> </li><li> <p>Direct communications strategy by composing and designing all outreach materials, including infographics, reports, and social media content in Adobe Express and Canva.</p> </li><li> <p>Create detailed social media outreach plan and content to attract quantifiable public engagement over time.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate communication between the project team, college administrators, vendors, and non-profit collaborators.</p> </li><li> <p>Contribute to grant management by composing quarterly and annual reports, monitoring budgets, developing data warehousing systems, and organizing project records.</p> </li><li> <p>All other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>F&M Global Barometers website: www.fandmglobalbarometers.org</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor of Arts Degree. </li><li>At least 1 year of project management experience in the non-profit, legal, government, education, and/or data science sector. </li><li>Advanced proficiency in English. </li><li>Ability to meticulously review work; follow protocols; multi-task; organize research; anticipate and plan for challenges. </li><li>Ability to identify issues; obtain relevant information; relate and compare data from different sources; and synthesize information. </li><li>Ability to manage time, complete tasks, and direct a team with minimum supervision; contribute new ideas; set goals for self and team; revise work based on feedback; and support and develop colleagues. </li><li>Experience with data visualization; ability to use graphic design software such as Adobe Express, Canva, and/or Photoshop to create social media content and design reports </li><li>Advanced proficiency with Google Workspace, MeisterTask, and Slack </li><li>Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. </li><li>Proficiency in Google Suite Products (Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides, Drive) </li><li>Evidence of a commitment to community and belonging. </li><li>Successful interview. </li><li>Successful completion of background checks. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master of Arts or Doctorate degree from an accredited institution. </li><li>Experience working with large datasets and on research projects that combine quantitative and qualitative data; advanced proficiency with statistical analysis software such as Excel, Python, R, Stata, SPSS, and/or Power-Bi. </li><li>Familiarity with concepts related to human rights, LGBTQI+ politics, and/or international politics. </li><li>Proficiency in a second language such as Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, and/or Mandarin Chinese. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of reference checks, a criminal background verification, and verification of credentials.
