<p>Description</p> <p>Under general supervision, performs responsible technical work in the field of traffic engineering; and investigates and analyzes traffic and/or transportation problems.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ol> <li> <p>Investigates, collects and analyzes data on traffice condidtions especially as they relate to traffic flows.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs design studies and analyses of traffic problems related to the design and positioning of traffice structures and accessories.</p> </li><li> <p>Examines alternative traffic control devices for effectiveness and makes recommendations on the selection and layout of selected equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Directs the preparation of maps and layouts of proposed traffice structures with indications as to their general characteristics.</p> </li><li> <p>Assigns and outlines detail work to subordinates, instructs them on objectives and procedures, and reviews their work during process and upon completion.</p> </li><li> <p>May supervise Assistant Engineers and other technical staff members.</p> </li><li> <p>Devises standard methods and forms for collection and presentation of traffic data.</p> </li><li> <p>Develops traffic survey techniques.</p> </li></ol> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in a traffic engineering or traffic planning related field.</p> <p>Three years of experience in traffic controls in urban areas and statistical analysis and reporting of traffic data.</p> <p>One year of supervisory experience preferred.</p> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>Evaluation Plan</p> <ul> <li>Interview:70% </li><li>Evaluation of Training, Experience &Personal Qualifications:30% </li><li>Total of Interview and Evaluation T.E.P:100% </li></ul> <p>Additional points may be awarded for:</p> <ul> <li>Veteran Points: 0 - 15 points </li><li>Detroit Residency Credit: 15 point </li></ul> <p>LDR: 01/20/2025</p> <p>Licensing and Certifications</p> <p>Valid State of Michigan Operator License required. Employees in this class will be required to provide and operate a motor vehicle on a reimbursed mileage basis.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <p>Principles and methods of traffic engineering design and construction.</p> <p>Standards and practices of traffice engineering.</p> <p>Statistical principles and practices as applied to engineering data.</p> <p>Problems of traffic control and the principles, methods and equipment involved in their solution.</p> <p>Computerized design and drafting tools.</p> <p>Skill In:</p> <p>Use of personal computers and computer aided drafting and design (CADD) equipment.</p> <p>Use of standard engineering and specialized traffic engineering application software, such as Synchro, Sim Traffic, HCS, etc.</p> <p>Use of common office and project management software.</p> <p>Ability to:</p> <p>Analyze problems related to traffic engineering design and structures.</p> <p>Plan and supervise work related to the design, selection and placement of traffic structures and appurtenances.</p> <p>Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.</p> <p>Interact with vendors, contractors, consultants, developers, subordinates and peers in a tactful and effective manner.</p> <p>Distinguishing Characteristics</p> <p>Work is performed in a variety of shop, plant, field and office locations, sometimes involves exposure to seasonal weather conditions.</p>
