<p>Description</p> <p>Assists departmental field employees with daily job assignments, including, but not limited to, park maintenance, facility maintenance, shrubs, and small tree maintenance. Also provides assistance and resources to employees, managers, and the general public regarding programs within the City of Evanston.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Specific assignment will include some or all of the following:</p> <ul> <li>Park Maintenance </li><li>Uses power and/or hand tools to perform mowing </li><li>watering </li><li>edging </li><li>raking and blowing leaves; </li><li>pulls weeds </li><li>plants shrubs and perennials </li><li>mulches plants </li><li>removes graffiti in parks </li><li>may assist in athletic field maintenance </li><li>may assist in the painting of picnic tables, park benches, etc. </li><li>posts picnic notifications and prepares sites for scheduled activities </li><li>all other duties as assigned. </li><li>Assist with landscaping maintenance & litter control, and tree removal and maintenance. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. </li><li>Ability and experience to operate hand and power tools and equipment safely. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and the public. </li><li>Excellent oral communication and ability to be a fast learner. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements of Work</p> <ul> <li>Must possess a high school diploma or GED. </li><li>Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements of Work</p> <p>Must have the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, such as extreme cold, high winds, rain, snow, sleet, high temperatures, and humidity; to stand for long periods of time, bend, and work outdoors with limited lighting; to work with chemicals, vehicles, or equipment fumes and gases, dust, and dirt. The employee must also be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.</p> <p>Supervision</p> <p>Work is performed under the general supervision of a supervising crew leader. Initially employee receives instruction on the safe use of equipment in the performance of maintenance tasks, orientation to the department, and work rules. Once proficiency with the variety of tasks performed and equipment used is gained, the employee is usually responsible for performing and completing the work independently according to City work rules and safety regulations. Work is checked by a supervisor on a daily basis or at the completion of the assigned project. Guidance is provided through rules and regulations, policies and procedures, personnel rules, and OSHA.</p> <p>Public Contact</p> <p>The employee has regular contact with the general public when working his/her normal shift. They may be asked to field questions and respond to concerns. The employee has contact with other City employees to relay factual and specific information regarding work assignments</p> <p>Rate</p> <p>$19-21.00/hour depending on qualifications</p> <p>Schedule</p> <p>This position works 20 40 hours per week, typically between the hours of 6:30 AM 5:00 PM; Monday-Friday but may require some evening and weekend hours depending on assignment. This position will report directly to the assigned crew leader with the support of staff within the Department.
