The position reports to the R&D organization. The successful candidate will be a technology leader in our organization - Solving tough technical problems, identifying strategic technical opportunities and making them real in the form of new products. We are looking for a technical leader who can surprise us with innovation and help build our future.</p> <p>Primary Duties & Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Support R&D and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects as they move through the development cycle. Coherent's R&D engineers focus heavily on the early stages of technology and product development, but they also provide critical technical support to products and customers as they move through the NPI process and into volume release. </li><li>Execute basic technology maturation projects in support of the Technology Roadmap, through modeling and experimental work. </li><li>Construct testbeds to explore pre-commercial product concepts for feasibility, performance, cost etc. </li><li>Perform product testing to verify the functionality and performance of Coherent's products. </li><li>Conduct simulation, modeling and analysis in support of product development and problem-solving activities. </li><li>Engage with our marketing team to capture product requirements and specifications, and support our customers, and our marketing, management and sales teams. </li><li>Provide technical support to resolve product issues affecting our customers, our factory, or our supply chain </li></ul> <p>Education & Experience</p> <ul> <li>Proven problem solver with a mindset to constantly pursue the basic understanding or root cause of problems. </li><li>Responsive, collaborative, and reliable - Can be counted on by others. Comfortable creating and communicating work plans, schedules, and resource requirements. Can support multiple complex activities in parallel. </li><li>Technical depth in at least two of the following engineering disciplines -optical/laser systems, systems engineering, mechanical, plasma physics, electrical/electronic, controls & software. The successful candidate will demonstrate an eagerness and ability to acquire new technical disciplines as needed. </li><li>An advanced degree (MS or higher) in physics, applied physics, precision mechanical engineering, electrical engineering (photonics focus), optical science & engineering, materials science & engineering, or a related field. PhD. Preferred, or with equivalent experience. </li></ul> <p>Targeted Skills</p> <ul> <li>Hands-on experience working with CO2 laser technology </li><li>Familiarity with optical waveguides </li><li>Experience with LabView, instrumentation, or python </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>This position involves a blend of laboratory activities, design activities and participating in various project reviews, design reviews etc. Our business is highly cross-functional and team oriented.</p> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Ability to function in a laboratory environement, working hands on with lasers and instrementation.</p> <p>Safety Requirements</p> <p>All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp.
