<p>Department</p> <p>Health Information Management</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Associate Coding Specialist is responsible for day-to-day tasks related to applying appropriate diagnostic codes to ancillary and recurring outpatient encounters or data retrieval, analysis and claims processing while maintaining data integrity within the medical records and other facility systems, as well as the information exchanged between Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS) and designated practice management facilities.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Require certification by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - OR - certification by American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) as a Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A) or must be obtained within one (1) year of hire/transfer. </li><li>Require completion of basic introductory coding courses including ICD-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. </li><li>Require a minimum of one (1) year Health Information Management (HIM) experience (i.e., basic coding, data analysis, etc.) in a related office setting. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Prefer hospital outpatient coding experience. </li><li>Prefer demonstrated strong interpersonal, customer service skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact with different departments and practitioners. </li><li>Prefer previous experience with Microsoft Office products, EHR software and Encoder systems. Prefer the ability to perform clerical duties and repetitive and detailed tasks. </li><li>Prefer the ability to work independently, shift priorities, and demonstrate decision-making ability. </li><li>Prefer strong attention to detail, strong analytical skills, critical thinking skill set and understanding of healthcare documentation. </li></ul> <p>Mandatory Education</p> <p>HS EQ: High School Diploma, GED or Certificate</p> <p>Preferred Education</p> <p>Required License and Certs</p> <p>Preferred License and Certs</p>
