Recognizing its location on the traditional lands of the Onyota'a:ká (Oneida Indian Nation), Colgate values diversity, community engagement, and shared responsibility in shaping a better future.</p> <p>The Center for Learning, Teaching, and Research (CLTR) at Colgate University invites applications for the newly created position of Assistant Director for Student Success. The CLTR offers support to both students and faculty and is committed to fostering an inclusive teaching and learning community through collaboration, understanding and partnership. The Assistant Director for Student Success will join the CLTR in an effort to expand capacity and further the Center's mission of supporting and promoting student success. The position will report to the Co-Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning and Research, student programs.</p> <p>The position will play a collaborative role in overseeing the peer tutor program and take a leadership role in training and supporting tutors. Additionally, the role will contribute to the office's efforts to help students enhance their study strategies, time management, and organizational skills, fostering academic success across the student body. The successful candidate will support students in developing strong reading comprehension skills. This position will also support new CLTR initiatives consistent with the campus-wide updates to the Third-Century Plan and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan.</p> <p>Accountabilities</p> <p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Accountable for taking a lead role in the development of inclusive and meaningful training opportunities and programming for peer tutors employed by the CLTR and across the university. Work to ensure that the tutoring program aligns with the institution's goals and student success objectives. </li><li>Responsible for designing, implementing, and assessing programs that support college-level study strategies, time management, and effective learning practices (1:1 support, student-centered workshops, & evaluating and adapting learning resources). </li><li>Provide individualized academic support to students, helping improve their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and information retention skills. Must have a good understanding of the complex relationship between reading and writing. </li><li>Plan and deliver workshops and group sessions focused on academic reading strategies and study skills. Create engaging and interactive content to enhance students' reading abilities and study habits. </li><li>Serve as a resource and advocate for effective learning practices, encouraging students to adopt proactive approaches that support their long-term academic and personal success. </li><li>Accountable for maintaining accurate intraoffice records of student progress in academic reading support and tutoring programs, as well as abiding by FERPA and maintaining confidentiality as appropriate and consistent with Colgate policy. </li><li>Use data and evidence-based practices to inform program adjustments and enhancements. </li><li>Stay current with research and best practices in learning support, including academic reading strategies, tutoring methodologies, and student success interventions. Serve as a resource for students and colleagues seeking guidance on learning support strategies and techniques.
