<p>Job Details</p> <p>Job Location: Plainville REGIONS - Plainville, CT</p> <p>Position Type: Full Time</p> <p>Education Level: 4 Year Degree</p> <p>Salary Range: $53641.00 - $78056.00 Salary</p> <p>Job Shift: Day</p> <p>Job Category: Education</p> <p>Description</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Humanities Teacher at the Plainville REGIONS facility will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging, student-centered instruction in English Language Arts, social studies, and interdisciplinary humanities topics to adjudicated youth in a residential setting for girls. The role involves fostering a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes academic growth, critical thinking, and the development of social-emotional and behavioral skills. This position requires a strong commitment to equitable education, trauma-informed practices, and restorative approaches to learning.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Instructional Planning and Delivery:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement creative lesson plans aligned with Connecticut state standards and the facility's goals. </li><li>Teach core Humanities subjects, integrating ELA and social studies content with a focus on cultural relevance, historical literacy, and student engagement. </li><li>Adapt lessons to accommodate diverse learning needs, including IEP goals, 504 plans, and behavioral interventions. </li><li>Incorporate project-based learning and cross-curricular activities to enhance real-world application and skill-building. </li></ul> <p>Classroom and Behavioral Management:</p> <ul> <li>Establish a positive and structured classroom environment using trauma-informed practices and restorative approaches. </li><li>Collaborate with clinical and behavioral staff to implement individualized behavioral interventions and ensure consistency in student expectations. </li><li>Use proactive strategies to promote self-regulation, resilience, and emotional growth among students. </li></ul> <p>Collaboration and Communication:</p> <ul> <li>Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including social workers, therapists, case managers, and support staff, to align educational plans with overall treatment goals. </li><li>Engage in regular team meetings to review student progress, share observations, and adjust instructional approaches as needed. </li><li>Maintain open communication with families, guardians, and external stakeholders to support each student's educational journey. </li></ul> <p>Assessment and Data Management:</p> <ul> <li>Administer formative and summative assessments to monitor academic progress and inform instruction. </li><li>Utilize student performance data to differentiate instruction and provide targeted interventions. </li><li>Prepare progress reports, document lesson plans, and maintain accurate attendance and grade records. </li></ul> <p>Professional Development:</p> <ul> <li>Participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities related to trauma-informed care, restorative practices, and strategies for teaching at-risk youth. </li><li>Stay updated on educational research and best practices in teaching humanities in alternative education settings. </li></ul> <p>External Candidates please apply online at www.aces.org. Internal candidates should apply via the "Careers at ACES" link on Interfaces.</p> <p>EEO/AAE</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Education and Certification:</p> <ul> <li>Connecticut teacher certification in Secondary English, Social Studies, or a relevant area (or eligibility to obtain certification). </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Prior experience teaching middle or high school students, especially in alternative education, residential, or juvenile justice settings. </li><li>Knowledge of trauma-informed and restorative justice practices is highly desirable. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills. </li><li>Ability to differentiate instruction and meet diverse student needs. </li><li>Proficient in integrating technology into instruction and using digital learning platforms. </li><li>Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural competence in the classroom. </li><li>Effective communication and collaboration skills within interdisciplinary teams. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment and Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>The position is based within a staff secure residential facility for adjudicated youth. </li><li>The teacher must demonstrate the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and handle sensitive situations with care and confidentiality. </li><li>This role may involve exposure to behaviors associated with trauma and stress. </li></ul>
