<p>The Computer Consultant I position in Information Technology Services (ITS) provides IT support to administrative users in various departments and divisions. IT support roles include desktop, laptop, mobile device, printer and application support. Additionally, the role assesses and makes recommendations for procurement of technology equipment for staff. The Computer Consultant I also supports the research computing efforts for the Maxwell School, evaluating technical requirements, identifying solutions, and helping to maintain a secure and robust research computing environment.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree, preferably in an IT / Computer Science related field, plus 1-3 years' experience, or equivalent combination of the two. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Specialized knowledge includes a moderate understanding of networking, IT hardware, software and how it interacts with the operating system, printer and printing capabilities, cell technologies as they pertain the support of client devices, and mobile computing platforms. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Use computing concepts, documented procedures, and knowledge of SUs systems to address a wide variety of IT support requests, including but not limited to general hardware and software break/fix and hardware and software installation. </li><li>Effectively prioritize incoming support tickets, coordinate and schedule with users, and provide cross-unit support as requested by supervisor. </li><li>Maintain accurate and timely incident logs in approved ticket management system. </li><li>Write technical and procedural documents as needed for inclusion in knowledge base. </li><li>Clearly and professionally correspond with peers across the University IT community. </li><li>Evaluate research data agreement requirements; identify technical safeguards and configurations to protect data. </li><li>Deploy, manage, and maintain secure computing environments lifecycles, in consult and collaboration with the rest of the team. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Standing 15% of the shift. Sitting 65% of the shift. Walking 15% of shift. Frequent kneeling and climbing stairs. </li><li>Able to lift 35 pounds waist high, 20 pounds shoulder high, 15 lbs above head.
