<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Administration/Director of Facilities</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>5/7/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Districtwide</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>06/06/2025</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>VACANCY NOTICE</p> <p>NEW FAIRFIELD BOARD OF EDUCATION</p> <p>POSITION: Director of Facilities (12-Month Position)</p> <p>SCHOOL: Districtwide - Reports to the Director of Business and Operations</p> <p>GENERAL DUTIES: The Director of Facilities serves as a key district leader responsible for overseeing the efficient, safe, and sustainable operation of all school buildings and grounds in New Fairfield Public Schools. This role includes long-term facilities planning, capital project management, day-to-day maintenance, and coordination with local and state agencies. The Director provides strategic leadership to ensure a healthy and effective learning environment across the district.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the Buildings and Grounds Department; including the development and implementation of long-range facilities plans and capital improvement projects in collaboration with district leaders and town officials.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee all facility operations including custodial, maintenance, groundskeeping, and contracted services; ensuring that preventative maintenance is regularly performed.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage school construction projects, working with architects, engineers, and construction managers.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise and evaluate facilities staff, ensuring high standards of safety, performance, and professionalism.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental requirements; responsible for safety and security projects and maintenance.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with principals and building administrators to support building-level needs and priorities.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare and monitor the annual facilities budget and provide data-driven recommendations for future operational and capital needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Administer personnel functions such as recruitment, hiring, evaluations, labor relations, and discipline in coordination with Human Resources.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee purchasing, inventory, and vendor management for all facilities-related supplies and services.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare reports and updates for the Superintendent and Board of Education on facilities-related initiatives and expenditures.</p> </li><li> <p>Represent the school district at the Board of Education, town committee, and community meetings as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor and ensure the effectiveness of preventive maintenance programs and ensure all equipment and systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) are in proper working order.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain all necessary records, permits, and inspection documentation for compliance and accountability.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with the Superintendent, Town officials, and the district's transportation provider to assess weather conditions and make informed decisions regarding school closures, delays, or early dismissals, prioritizing student and staff safety.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure all facilities and operations align with Connecticut General Statute related to public school infrastructure, including safety, health and accessibility standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate closely with Town of New Fairfield administrative and operational departments to coordinate maintenance priorities, align capital planning efforts, and ensure compliance.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with district and local emergency management personnel to plan, implement, and review emergency response protocols, ensuring compliance with Connecticut school safety legislation.</p> </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Associate Degree with at least seven (7) years of progressive experience in facilities management, or, Bachelor's or advanced degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated experience supervising operations and staff within large-scale facilities settings.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of applicable building codes, safety regulations, and maintenance best practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Prior leadership experience in a public school district or comparable public agency.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience developing and managing multi-fund budgets.</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with labor relations and collective bargaining environments.</p> </li><li> <p>Technical expertise in building systems including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency in using technology and software systems for facilities operations and planning.</p> </li></ul> <p>SALARY:</p> <p>Commensurate with Experience</p> <p>POSITION TO START:</p> <p>July 1, 2025</p> <p>PLEASE SUBMIT:</p> <p>Online Application (www.newfairfieldschools.org)</p> <p>Cover Letter</p> <p>Resume</p> <p>Letters of Reference (2)</p> <p>The New Fairfield Board of Education is an equal opportunity employer committed to an Affirmative Action Plan in recruiting, appointing, training, evaluating, and promoting personnel on the basis of merit and qualification, without regard for race, color, religion, sex, age, natural origin, ancestry, marital status, Veteran status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability or genetic information or any other applicable lawful discriminatory standards except in the case of a bona fide occupational qualification.
