<p>JOB TITLE: High School English Teacher</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal</p> <p>GENERAL DESCRIPTION</p> <p>A High School English Teacher at North Andover High School (NAHS) is a professional educator dedicated to fostering scientific literacy, critical thinking, and a passion for inquiry within a rigorous academic environment. The role involves delivering high-quality instruction aligned with the Massachusetts English Language Arts Frameworks while supporting the school's mission of cultivating "insightful thinkers and effective communicators."</p> <p>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Instructional Design & Delivery </li><li>Curriculum Alignment: Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the MA STE standards and the NAHS curriculum guides. </li><li>Inquiry-Based Learning: Facilitate hands-on laboratory experiences, demonstrations, and research projects that emphasize the scientific method and engineering design process. </li><li>Differentiation: Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles, including the use of Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) strategies for English Learners and modifications for students with IEPs or 504 plans. </li><li>Technology Integration: Utilize modern laboratory equipment and educational technology to enhance student engagement and data analysis. </li><li>Assessment & Data Analysis </li><li>Formative & Summative Evaluation: Design diverse assessment tools (lab reports, projects, exams) to monitor student progress. </li><li>Data-Driven Instruction: Analyze student performance data to identify learning gaps and adjust instructional strategies accordingly. </li><li>Grading: Maintain accurate records of student achievement in accordance with the NAHS semester-based grading system. </li><li>Classroom Management & Environment </li><li>Safety Standards: Strictly adhere to and enforce OSHA and district safety protocols for laboratory settings, including the proper handling and disposal of chemicals/biological materials. </li><li>Inclusive Climate: Foster a respectful, culturally responsive, and safe learning environment where students feel comfortable taking academic risks. </li><li>Professional Collaboration </li><li>Departmental Synergy: Work with the English Department to coordinate curriculum, share best practices, and participate in interdisciplinary units. </li><li>Community Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and participate in school-wide events like Open Houses. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Category</p> <p>Requirement</p> <p>Education</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in a English or Secondary Education. Master's degree preferred.</p> <p>Licensure</p> <p>Valid Massachusetts DESE Certification in the relevant subject area (e.g., Biology 8-12, Chemistry 8-12).</p> <p>Clearances</p> <p>Successful completion of CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and fingerprint-based background checks.</p> <p>Skills</p> <p>Strong classroom management, proficiency in educational software, and a commitment to social-emotional learning (SEL).</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>Working in a school setting. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy indoor environment with work inside about 85% of the time and work outside about 15% of the work schedule. Ability to stand/sit and/or squat for extended periods of time.
