This division is responsible for maintaining a State Fleet of passenger/ cargo vehicles for purchasing, assigning, providing maintenance/ repair, and monitoring and disposal of vehicles at the end of their life cycle. The division operates a fleet of 7,300 vehicles on a $37 million yearly budget. The division also monitors vehicle misuses, accidents, and vehicle preventive maintenance schedules using Fleet Best Practices and operates a Cabinet Member inventory of vehicle and trailer titles.</p> <p> </p> <p>Key Responsibilities: </p> <ul> <li>Diagnose complex vehicle System faults. </li><li>Conduct Journey Level repairs on Motor vehicles. </li><li>Repair all systems of an automobile to factory specifications on an as needed basis. </li><li>Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles. </li><li>Repair, maintain, replace, and rebuild mechanical and electrical automobile components in accordance with established automotive repair and maintenance practices. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, minor and major engine repair or replacement, differential repairs, repairing of electrical components, air conditioning systems, steering and brake systems, as well as automotive computer diagnostics and repair. </li><li>Performing other mechanical tasks such as changing oil, replacing tires, changing and/ or replacing batteries as well as engine tune-ups. </li><li>Learn and utilize the GMS system. </li><li>Write work orders and document repairs to vehicles. </li><li>Utilizing the Garage Management System work order module, prepare, assign, and track work orders for the staff of the MFM Garage Manager </li><li>Using established policy and procedure to conduct periodic safety audit of the MFM garage and report findings to the garage manager. </li><li>Assist garage mechanics with complex technical issues. </li><li>Mentor junior mechanics for hands-on technical training. </li></ul> <p>Division/ Department Overview </p> <p> The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state's population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency's mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies.</p> <p>NOTE: "See Resume" is not acceptable to show work history.</p> <p>MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated experience in the repair and maintenance of steering and brake systems. </li><li>Demonstrated experience in repairing new model vehicle components utilizing computer diagnostic skills and experience in heating and air conditioning systems. </li><li>Demonstrated experience in replacing and rebuilding mechanical and electrical automotive components in accordance with established automobile repair and maintenance practices. </li><li>Demonstrated experience in the purchasing of fuel, oil, parts, and other related supplies. </li><li>Ability to weld. </li></ul> <p>NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS: </p> <ul> <li>Valid NC Driver's License with acceptable driving record. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License or acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire. Candidate must present proof of a valid NC Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record. </li><li>Individual must obtain a Vehicle Safety Inspection License, if not already certified, within 6 months of employment. </li></ul> <p>Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience."
