<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Join South Carolina state government where you can have a meaningful career, incomparable benefits, and a positive work-life balance!</p> <p>Under limited supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation Technology. You will be responsible for the following:</p> <ul> <li>Performing job site assessments to address barriers in the workplace and use sound engineering principles when making recommendations to the field staff. </li><li>Performing home site assessments to address access needs as they relate to employment while collaborate with Occupational Therapist. </li><li>Administer the department's vehicle services to include coordination with Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialists, NMEDA qualified vendors, and consumers. Duties include organizing assessment and training services, generation of modification specifications, overseeing installation of equipment and final inspection. </li><li>Administer the department's mobility services to include coordination with physicians, therapists, vendors and insurance representatives. Duties include scheduling and performing assessments, and final wheelchair fitting and delivery services. </li><li>Performing assessments for education and transition services. Duties include consultation to field staff and consumers regarding assistive technology and other available accommodation resources. Administration of these services to include coordination with schools and training programs. </li><li>Design, plan and coordinate services for special tooling, equipment and accommodations needed for persons with disabilities which are not commercially available. </li><li>Provide drawings, specifications, and fabrication of prototype and deliverable equipment to consumers and area training centers. </li><li>Supervise and oversee engineering assistant in fabrication process. </li><li>Coordinate with third party vendors for completion of services when necessary. </li><li>Other duties as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation Technology. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree in Engineering, or Engineering Technology and intermediate-level engineering work experience. </li><li>Ability to independently plan and manage multiple simultaneous and complex accessibility projects, while coordinating with multiple stakeholders. </li><li>Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. </li><li>Ability to work and collaborate as a team member in developing technology solutions. </li><li>Ability to oversee and supervise the work of an engineering assistant on assigned fabrication projects. </li><li>Ability to lift 50 lbs. </li><li>Ability to crawl, bend, reach and climb as necessary to access physical locations. </li><li>In-state travel required. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Mechanical and electrical design and fabrication experience in addressing barriers faced by individuals with disabilities. </li><li>Working knowledge of Federal, State and Local Building Codes, and ADA Codes as those apply to construction projects. </li><li>Working knowledge of body anatomy and disabilities. </li><li>Working fluency in ASL is a plus. </li></ul> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>The South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, including, but not limited, to lactation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.</p> <p>The South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department offers an exceptional benefits package for FTE positions that includes:</p> <ul> <li>Health, Dental, Vision, Long Term Disability, and Life Insurance for Employee, Spouse, and Children </li><li>15 days annual (vacation) leave per year </li><li>15 days sick leave per year </li><li>13 paid holidays </li><li>State Retirement Plan and Deferred Compensation Programs </li></ul> <p>If invited to interview, please obtain your Official 10 year driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles to bring with you.</p> <p>Official transcripts will be required to verify college degree.</p> <p>South Carolina is making our veterans a priority for employment in state agencies and institutions.
