<p>Join Our Team! The Department of Chemical Biology and Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and innovative?synthetic organic chemist specialized in medicinal chemistry to join our collaborative department. The incumbent will be responsible for designing and synthesizing molecules and compound libraries using modern computation-driven and property-focused design principles. They will work in collaboration with biologists to interpret the assay data, then design and prioritize new compounds in an iterative fashion. Projects will focus on advancing cutting-edge drug discovery programs for childhood catastrophic diseases using the latest approaches in proximity-based targeting. Specifically, based on the mechanistic basis of disease, our goal is to develop unique chemical approaches (protein degraders, synthetic gene regulators and/or functional effectors) to degrade or manipulate targets relevant to pediatric oncology, neurodegenerative disorders and sickle cell disease. Job Responsibilities: Develop and perform procedures using established or modified techniques/protocols Conduct multi-step synthetic sequences toward key target molecules, using appropriate purification and compound characterization techniques Troubleshoot and optimize reaction conditions Synthesize, purify and characterize bi-functional molecules Implement new but established protocols without individual training Troubleshoot experiments and identify anomalies in own data Consistently monitors current literature and trends within field Accurately record experimental procedures and data Prepare and report results/ data leading to posters, presentations, or publications Provide guidance to less-experienced team members Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Minimum Education and/or Training: Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific area is required Minimum Experience: 5+ years of research experience is required 3+ years of experience is required with a Master's degree No prior experience required with a PHD Strong knowledge and experience in understanding and application of underlying principles related to the techniques being performed Experience in R&D methods and processes in lab setting, and execution of research projects for the laboratory preferred Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role Compensation In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
