<p>Our National Claims Counsel office is looking for a Sr. Coverage Counsel- Specialty to join our growing team. This position can be remote based or at one of our office locations.</p> <p>Position summary:</p> <p>Reporting to the Managing Counsel Claims Legal, Sr. Coverage Counsel - Specialty serves as legal counsel to Hanover's claim organization, focused primarily on providing legal opinions, advice and resolution strategies on coverage and extra-contractual issues arising from the company's insurance policies and coverage positions, with a focus on specialty claims-made coverage.</p> <p>This is a full-time, exempt role.</p> <p>In this role you will:</p> <ul> <li>Primary responsibility is to research and provide legal advice and opinions to claims handlers on coverage issues arising from the company's insurance contracts, with a strong focus on specialty claims(e.g., management liability, EPLI, professional liability). </li><li>Provide timely, appropriate, and actionable coverage opinions/advice on selected high complexity/exposure claims. </li><li>Partner with claim handlers to develop strategies that optimally resolve coverage disputes. </li><li>May manage selective coverage litigation brought by or against the Company(including declaratory judgment actions, extra-contractual bad-faith, and other claims related disputes). </li><li>Review and approve proposed coverage actions brought on behalf of the company. </li><li>Collaborate with underwriting and product areas to improve the Company's insurance products. </li></ul> <p>What you need to apply:</p> <ul> <li>Significant experience preparing coverage opinions on claims-made insurance policies either in a law firm or in house for a property and casualty insurer required. </li><li>Experience litigating insurance coverage and related bad faith disputes either in private practice or in house for a property and casualty insurer a plus. </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively within a team framework. </li><li>Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and clients. </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to clearly articulate actionable legal advice. </li><li>Computer literacy, including proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook and keyboarding skills. </li><li>Familiarity with legal principles and issues concerning E-Discovery </li><li>JD degree or equivalent. </li><li>Admitted to practice in at least one US jurisdiction. </li><li>Preferably 6 or more years of experience in practicing law in a law firm or in-house, a substantial portion of which involved property & casualty insurance coverage matters. </li><li>Skilled at time management and organizing work. </li></ul>
