BCHC was originally established in 2001, with a federal 330 health center grant to serve local farm workers. In 2007, additional grant funding awards allowed an expansion to serve the greater community, including low-income families, the homeless, the uninsured, and Medicaid and KCHIP recipients.</p> <p>We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and are committed to excellence through diversity.</p> <p>Position Certified Medical Assistant Category Healthcare Rate of Pay Description</p> <p>The CMA assists licensed medical personnel in delivering and documenting medical care, follow-up and health education according to established policies and procedures and Patient Centered Medical Home principles.</p> <p>Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and guests:</p> <ul> <li>Interact with patients and others in a respectful and culturally competent manner. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality of patient personal, financial, and health records. </li><li>Ensure patients are identified with two forms of identification (i.e. name, DOB) at each visit and before all procedures. </li><li>Answer phones calls/respond to messages per policy. </li><li>Communicate with patients, families, and guests in a professional and courteous manner. </li><li>Assess for and report potential environmental and patient safety risks i.e. broken furniture and equipment). </li><li>Will attend Outreach Events or Health Fairs as scheduled by Supervisor. </li><li>Attend assigned staff meetings, clinic committee meetings and training as requested by Supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Provide quality patient care according to Patient Centered Medical Home principles:</p> <ul> <li>Assume assigned role within the PCMH team. </li><li>Acts as preceptor and train new staff as clinical assistants. Acts as mentor to new staff and other staff who require encouragement or instruction related to clinic policies. </li><li>Will demonstrate expertise in HIPAA laws and is able to direct other staff with appropriate contact with phone calls and other who may enter clinic. </li><li>Will demonstrate expertise in CLIA Waived labs, controls and documentation. </li><li>Must excel in time management, reliability and responsible use of time off. Demonstrates active participation in team huddles and promotes PCMH principles as a role model to other clinical assistants </li><li>Participate in pre-visit planning and post-visit follow-up care. </li><li>Participate in effective clinic flow. </li><li>Monitor interruptions in flow and communicate delays to patients. </li><li>Utilize interpreters/interpreting line as indicated to ensure effective communication. </li><li>If bilingual, serve as an interpreter as requested. </li><li>Keep patient care rooms and patient bathrooms cleaned and well stocked. </li><li>Keep lab and phlebotomy room clean and well stocked. </li><li>Perform and documents quality control checks on lab tests and equipment. </li><li>Ensure lab orders are processed correctly and per policy. </li><li>Sterilize instruments as indicated. </li><li>Change needled boxes as needed and store for pick-up. </li><li>Collect initial patient health data (i.e. vital signs, heights, weights) and room patient. </li><li>Perform standing orders established for clinical assistants. </li><li>Follow orders given by licensed medical personnel that are consistent with team role and competency level (i.e. CLIA-waived tests, phlebotomy, set up for/assist with procedures, finger stick for labs and injections with appropriate training or certification) </li><li>Provide established standardized education as appropriate. </li><li>Report and document any concern or adverse reaction to medication/intervention to licensed medical personnel. </li><li>Review visit summary/take home instructions/return for follow-up with patients; provide clarification/education as appropriate. </li><li>Escort patient to check-out at end of visit. </li></ul> <p>Documentation</p> <ul> <li>Recognize the legal and funding implications of correct medical documentation. </li><li>Document collected patient data correctly in patient chart. </li><li>Document details of direct patient care, phone calls to/from patient, and mail correspondence correctly in patient chart. </li><li>Process incoming/outgoing faxes. </li><li>Process scanned medical records; ensure records are filed correctly and in correct patient file. </li><li>Ensure that EHR system, patient records/identification, and system password are protected. </li><li>Follow HIPAA and patient confidentiality policy. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Education Required:</p> <p>High school degree or equivalent required and completion of medical assisting training with accredited school and proof of CMA Certification, or pending within 1-2 month prior to 90 days orientation.</p> <p>Minimum Experience Preferred:</p> <p>Bilingual</p> <p>3-6 Months in health related field</p> <p>Prefer health related experience in a federally qualified health clinic setting.</p> <p>Required Knowledge:</p> <p>Standard working knowledge of basic skills (reading, writing, math), maintenance of records and files, general office work, customer service, word processing, database management, administrative abilities, proficient clinical skills. Requires the ability to selectively extract and verify information from a variety of sources to be applied in the completion of multi-step procedures. Requires the understanding of interrelationships of procedures and desired results and the ability to gather, organize and perform limited analysis.
