We are driven by Positivity which inspires us to be our best and to go above and beyond for our patients, for one another, and for our community.</p> <p>If you're ready for a rewarding new career, join Team Bronson and be part of the experience.</p> <p>Location</p> <p>BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital</p> <p>Title</p> <p>Trauma Registry Analyst-2-Hybrid</p> <p>Supports the Bronson Systems Trauma Program and organizational requirements for verification as a Level I Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons at Bronson Methodist Hospital, and designation for Level I, III, and IV Trauma Center by the State of Michigan at Bronson Battle Creek, Bronson Lakeview, and Bronson South Haven by maintaining a unique database called the Trauma Registry. This includes identification of cases for inclusion into the trauma registry database, abstraction of data from various sources including the electronic medical record, prehospital data bases, and other data sources. Assigns ICD-10 diagnosis codes and Abbreviated Injury Scores (AIS) to injuries, procedures, comorbidities, and complication according to ICD-10 and AIS methodologies and coding rules. Performs on-going daily chart reviews on all injured patients and enters data into the trauma registry. Reports complications and quality issues to the lead trauma registrar and/or trauma program manager. Ensures adherence to data management protocols set forth to ensure accurate and timely reporting of data to Bronson and regulatory agencies. Assist with performance improvement activities. Generates reports from the Trauma Registry if needed. Requests reports from the National Trauma Data Bank (NDTB), Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), State of Michigan Registry, Michigan Trauma Quality Improvement Program (MTQIP), and other databases for trauma-specific quality improvement. Collaborate with information technology to import data from hospital information systems into the Trauma Registry. Completes special projects as assigned by the Lead Trauma Registrar or Trauma Program Manager.</p> <p>Requirements</p> <ul> <li> <p>High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 6 months in a healthcare setting required.</p> </li><li> <p>Further education in specialized technical healthcare subjects (i.e. medical science, medical terminology, pathology, anatomy, physiology, etc.) required.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate and pass the AAAM's Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course within 1 year of hire.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in a trauma registry course within in 1 year of hire that includes all of the following content:</p> </li><li> <p>Abstraction</p> </li><li> <p>Data Management</p> </li><li> <p>Reports/report analysis</p> </li><li> <p>Data Validation</p> </li><li> <p>HIPAA</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in an ICD-10 Course or an ICD-10 refresher course within 1 year of hire and every five years following initial course.</p> </li><li> <p>Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist Certification must be attempted within 3 years of hire.</p> </li><li> <p>Complete/Accrue at least 24 hours of trauma-related CE every three years.</p> </li><li> <p>Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) certification or equivalent in training and experience is preferred.</p> </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Experience in coding, ICD10-CM and Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) scoring is preferred. </li><li>Must have a working knowledge of hospital coding schemes. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret data from documents, equipment, and computer programs. </li><li>Ability to communicate in an easily understood grammatically correct manner required. </li><li>Ability to use computer, spreadsheets, presentations (i.e. PowerPoint), and databases is required. </li><li>Must be able to work independently and make justifiable decisions but follow directions from various individuals. </li><li>Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with management, physicians, nurses, and colleagues. </li><li>Collaborates with members of the Trauma Team and other staff as necessary to ensure accuracy of data. </li><li>Screens patient admissions for eligible patients for inclusion in the Trauma Registry. Reviews daily census reports and other reports that include admitted patients with a trauma related diagnosis. </li><li>Enters all collected patient data into the computerized Trauma Registry data system in a manner that meets the requirements (for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness) of the American College of Surgeon's Committee on Trauma. </li><li>Communicates with regional referral hospitals, prehospital providers, and Medical Examiner office for documentation requests to complete the medical record data collection. </li><li>Assigns and scores all injuries utilizing ICD-10-CM, E-Code and AIS scoring. </li><li>Completes AIS, ISS injury scoring, ICD-10-CM, and Revised Trauma Score (RTS) accurately. </li><li>Contacts physicians, as needed, for clarification of diagnosis or treatment data. </li><li>Abstracts core information from patient medical records (including demographic characteristics, history of injuries, diagnostic procedures, and treatment); also contacts EMS providers, referring physicians or hospitals for information as needed. </li><li>Collaborates with EMS Liaison to obtain EMS information. Enters EMS data into trauma registry upon receipt and screens for performance improvement issues. </li><li>Collaborates with Trauma Team members to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of EMS data. </li><li>Distributes reports to Medical Record department and EMS coordinator upon receipt. </li><li>Generates weekly reports for EMS liaison. </li><li>Generates reports and maintains Data Request log according to guidelines. </li><li>Provides written reports from the Trauma Registry on a scheduled basis upon direction of direction of the Trauma Registry Lead, Trauma Medical Director & Trauma Program Manager </li><li>Participates in trauma performance improvement activities by identifying and entering documentation into the quality improvement and complication screens; communicates variances to Trauma Team members. </li><li>Generates reports and statistical data for the Trauma Performance Improvement Committee, Trauma Morbidity & Mortality Committee, Trauma Case Reviews, Trauma Grand Rounds, and for Trauma Research as appropriate. Obtains approval for Trauma Registry Data requests according to approved guidelines. </li><li>Utilizes internal and external support staff to troubleshoot and diagnose hardware and software problems. </li><li>Communicates problems and concerns to Trauma Program Manager </li><li>Ensures the confidentiality and security of patient data stored in the Trauma Registry files and in the Trauma Surgery Services department. </li><li>Runs validation reports upon completion of monthly data entry. Makes corrections as necessary to ensure validity and reliability of data. </li><li>Collaborates with the Information Technology staff to integrate data points from the hospital system with the Trauma Registry. </li><li>Analyze the EMR to identify patients with readmissions due to trauma-related complications. </li><li>Support Injury Prevention programs and projects as needed. </li><li>Participates in research initiatives through data collection. </li><li>Identify opportunities for improvement through data trending. </li><li>Networks with other Trauma Centers when challenged with the trauma registry.
