<p>Director of Convocation Center</p> <p>Location New Castle</p> <p>Job Code 1620</p> <p># of Openings 1</p> <p>Apply Now</p> <p>EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY</p> <p>DATE: May 29, 2025</p> <p>FROM: Human Resources</p> <p>POSITION: Director of Convocation Center, Financial Affairs (FT)</p> <p>Effective August 2025: Full-time Director of Convocation Center - Wilmington University - Brandywine.</p> <p>Wilmington University is seeking a strategic, service-driven professional to serve as the Director of Convocation Center Operations. This leadership role provides comprehensive oversight of the University's Convocation Center, a key venue for academic, institutional, and external events. The Director is responsible for the full event lifecycle, facility operations, vendor coordination, budget management, and staff supervision. This position plays a critical role in delivering a seamless and high-quality experience for all guests while ensuring compliance with University standards, policies, and regulations.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Event Management: Serve as the primary contact for all Convocation Center events, overseeing the full event lifecycle-from initial inquiry and planning to execution and post-event follow-up. Ensure all logistics (setup, AV, security, signage, and catering) are executed flawlessly and in compliance with University policies. </li><li>Facility Operations: Lead daily operations and long-term planning for the Center, maintaining cleanliness, scheduling efficiency, and compliance with safety and accessibility standards. </li><li>Food & Beverage Coordination: Manage food and beverage logistics in collaboration with approved vendors, ensuring quality and adherence to health and safety guidelines. </li><li>Staff Supervision: Oversee event operations staff, including full-time, part-time, and student workers, fostering a professional and service-oriented team environment. </li><li>Budget & Administration: Develop and monitor the Center's budget, track revenue and expenses, and utilize event management systems for scheduling, billing, and reporting. </li><li>Collaboration & Client Relations: Work closely with internal departments and external clients to support University-sponsored and approved events. Coordinate with key partners, including Facilities, Information Technology, University Safety, and Marketing to ensure seamless event delivery. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications: A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required. A degree in Hospitality, Event Management, Higher Education Administration, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in event or facility management, ideally within a higher education or nonprofit setting. Prior experience managing vendor relationships and working across departments is essential.</p> <p>The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills. They must be detail-oriented, self-directed, and comfortable making independent decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with event management or scheduling systems is required. Knowledge of ADA compliance, public assembly regulations, and AV/technical logistics is strongly preferred.</p> <p>Hours of Employment: This position generally operates Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with flexibility required to support events held during early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
