<p>Gigafactory Nevada's Facilities Engineering team is looking for an energetic PLC and SCADA development engineer to join the team responsible for Tesla's Factory Control System. The Factory Automation Controls Development Engineer focuses on programming and maintaining control systems that automates cutting-edge large-scale equipment and utility systems supporting highly innovative manufacturing processes (battery packs, vehicle, and cell). This position concentrates specifically on design and development of PLC code and integration of new process equipment to the factory control system. Siemens TIA ("TIA Portal") and or Allen Bradley RXlogix5000 and Studio5000 experience is required for this role. High performance SCADA and experience in Ignition is also preferred.</p> <ul> <li>Architect, write, and debug object-oriented PLC ladder logic (or SCL) emphasizing generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. PLC code will interact with various vendor and 3rd party equipment to meet utility automation requirements within Tesla's Control System </li><li>Develop company, factory, and equipment level controls standards/specification for code application by internal global teams and or external partners/vendors. Architect tools for automation of development and deployment of PLC based systems </li><li>Participate in initial system conceptual development and design reviews for product specifications, process control requirements, layout complexity, cost, quality, and lead-time limits </li><li>Develop, create, and maintain factory high performance SCADA system, support efforts to develop high efficiency alarm rationalization techniques. Work with IT and application teams to maintain 24/7 system reliability </li><li>Participate in continuous improvement activities like system energy efficiency and cost reduction with key stakeholders like Plant Operations, Reliability, and other Engineering groups </li><li>Participate in the execution of start-up and commissioning activities </li><li>Support Facilities org or other end users in training for the site SCADA system </li><li>Provide expert on-call support for system outages and failover incidents and participate in root cause analysis </li><li>Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience </li><li>3+ years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Robotics Engineer working on either process automation and/or electromechanical systems </li><li>Experience with integration and process control systems (compressors, wastewater, chillers, HVAC, BMS etc.) </li><li>Proficiency programming industrial equipment from scratch and or modifying: Structured text, ladder logic code for PLCs preferably Siemens controllers, safety PLCs (Siemens, Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley), and human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI - Beckhoff View, WinCC, Ignition) </li><li>Proficiency in understanding network topologies, and protocols (EtherCAT, Profinet, Modbus) </li><li>Experience with serial communication (RS-232) between PLCs and instruments, ethernet communications between PLCs and database systems, and ability to read, understand, troubleshoot network packet captures/wireshark </li><li>Experience in selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, PLC hardware, VFDs and servo systems </li><li>Experience with setting up and troubleshooting VFDs, motor starters is highly desired </li><li>Experience with field wiring, field troubleshooting, and instrumentation is highly desired </li></ul>
