<p>FRAMINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>Follow us on LinkedIn</p> <p>Principal</p> <p>Walsh Middle School</p> <p>2026-2027 School Year</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY</p> <p>The principal of Walsh Middle School will promote and advance the educational development of each student through leadership, supervision, and administrative skills and build a climate of life-long learning in the school through the establishment of an effective staff development program in order to provide overall support with the goal of maintaining high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic and language proficiency for all students, and equitable access to students in disenfranchised groups within the school. Achieving academic excellence requires that the Middle School Principal work collaboratively to lead and nurture all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and schools. With its blend of educational resources, accessibility, and dynamic community life, Framingham is a welcoming place to live and grow.</p> <p>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS</p> <p>Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in:</p> <ul> <li>Principal/Assistant Principal (Grades: PreK-8 or 5-12) and SEI Endorsement for Administrators. </li></ul> <p>TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE</p> <p>Framingham Public Schools seeks candidates whose background, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging in all aspects of education.</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree from an accredited college or university. </li><li>Have at least five (5) years of teaching experience. </li><li>Administrative experience is strongly preferred. </li><li>Teaching or administrative experience in a dual language setting is strongly preferred. </li></ul> <p>SKILLS AND ABILITY</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:</p> <ul> <li>Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and respond effectively to questions from students, staff, parents, and community members. </li><li>Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional literature, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. </li><li>Sound reasoning and problem-solving skills to evaluate information, define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and recommend appropriate courses of action. </li><li>Capacity to use professional literature, evidence-based research, and ongoing professional learning to inform instructional and practice decisions. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the community. </li><li>Strong organizational and time-management skills to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects. </li><li>Commitment to performing all duties in compliance with district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies. </li><li>Demonstrated cultural proficiency and competence in working with students and families from diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and student records. </li><li>Professionalism and composure in responding to unpredictable or challenging situations. </li><li>Proficiency in using technology and willingness to learn new tools; ability to operate a computer and utilize software, including Google Workspace for Education. </li><li>Willingness to plan, coordinate, and participate in ongoing professional learning, coaching, and staff development. </li><li>Experience in evaluating student skills, interpreting assessment data, and writing clear, concise reports. </li><li>Strong collaborative, instructional, coaching, and leadership skills to support student programming. </li><li>Ability to use data effectively to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes. </li><li>Knowledge of specialized content areas, relevant laws, and educational procedures. </li><li>Ability to plan and implement lessons that align with district and school goals. </li><li>Proficiency in integrating instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning. </li><li>A proactive, reflective, and solution-focused approach to supporting student growth and success. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING:</p> <ul> <li>Supervises and directs the school's instructional program in collaboration with various departments in Central Administration. </li><li>Provides leadership on the adoption and execution of the general program to meet the needs of the community and the students assigned to the school. </li><li>Participates in system-wide committees for the advancement of the educational program. </li><li>Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with community groups, businesses, parents, and individuals to promote school objectives. </li><li>Provides leadership in collaboration with Central Administration in the formulation of curriculum and objectives for the school program. </li><li>Is the key advocate for Middle school education with the Central Administration. </li><li>Ensures a positive school climate through the identification of issues and the development of appropriate programs. </li></ul> <p>II. STUDENT SUPERVISION:</p> <ul> <li>Monitors and interacts with students and their families regarding academic, social, behavioral, and emotional issues. </li><li>Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students. </li><li>Develops and administers policies on student behavior and serves as or designates a hearing officer for serious disciplinary actions. </li><li>Participates in the team evaluation process. </li><li>Fosters a sense of belonging for all students. </li><li>Creates an inclusive environment that drives academic excellence through equitable access, high expectations, and culturally responsive practices. </li><li>Coordinates student activity programs, field trips, and other school activities as necessary. </li><li>Participates in parent meetings and conferences and acts as an intermediary between parents, teachers, and students to deal with a variety of needs or concerns. </li><li>Resolves individual student problems. </li><li>Analyzes a variety of data points to create intentional action plans/interventions for students that are progress monitored. </li></ul> <p>III. STAFF SUPERVISION:</p> <ul> <li>Supervises, directs and evaluates all members of the faculty and staff. </li><li>Hires and assigns all building staff with the concurrence of the Superintendent. </li><li>Coordinates staff development activities in alignment with the District Strategic Plan. </li><li>Conducts staff meetings and participates with staff in problem-solving school issues. </li><li>Provides regular feedback regarding the quality of teaching and learning to staff. </li></ul> <p>IV. ADMINISTRATION:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates special services and schedules for faculty and various ancillary staff serving the school. </li><li>Keeps informed on the latest trends and developments in education and school operations. </li><li>Develops school based benchmarks with Central Administration and monitors the progress toward those benchmarks. </li><li>Prepares reports, records, and lists appropriate to the school's administration. </li><li>Interprets and enforces district and school policies and administrative regulations. </li><li>Supervises the development and administration of the school safety plan. </li><li>Informs the Central Administration of school activities and programs. </li><li>Prepares and submits school budget and monitors expenditures. </li><li>Provides leadership as co-chair of the School Council. </li><li>Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Other duties as assigned.</p> <p>PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
