<ul> <li>Job Type: Officer of Administration </li><li>Regular/Temporary: Regular </li><li>Hours Per Week: 35 hrs/wk </li><li>Salary Range: $82,000 - $85,000 </li></ul> <p>The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Columbia Technology Ventures is the technology transfer office for Columbia University and a central location for many of the technology development initiatives, entrepreneurial activities, external industry collaborations, and commercially-oriented multidisciplinary technology innovations across the university. CTV's core mission is to facilitate the transfer of inventions from academic research labs to the market for the benefit of society on a local, national, and global basis. Each year, CTV manages more than 350 invention disclosures, 100 license deals, and 20 new IP-backed start-ups, involving over 750 inventors across Columbia's campuses. CTV currently has over 1200 patent assets available for licensing, across research fields such as bio, IT, clean tech, devices, big data, nanotechnology, materials science, and more.</p> <p>Over the years, CTV has been involved with launching well over 200 companies based on Columbia's technologies, and has also founded several technology initiatives to accelerate the path to market for promising technologies.</p> <p>CTV's efforts are backed by 50+ full time staff and an additional 35+ graduate student interns (CTV Fellows), providing broad support to the Columbia community and other stakeholders. CTV also runs an Executive-in-Residence program, which brings seasoned industry executives, serial entrepreneurs, and investors to campus to support faculty and student entrepreneurial activities.</p> <p>Columbia, along with some of its NYC peer universities, run a number of accelerators, proof-of-concept, and entrepreneur matching programs. The goal of all of these programs is to support the commercialization of early-stage scientific inventions emerging from the university research labs, by providing the right balance of proof-of-concept funding, entrepreneurial training, mentorship, connection to talent, access to venture capital for startups, and training in industry dynamics across a variety of industry verticals including medical devices, therapeutics, media, and cleantech, among others.</p> <p>Columbia Technology Ventures is seeking an enthusiastic L2M Alliance Associate (AA) to focus on L2M programs, as well as work closely with the Business Development and the rest of the Columbia Tech Ventures teams. The AA is primarily responsible for critical administrative, program, and project management support to prepare, launch, and administer the processes of key programmatic and alliance activities. The AA focuses on process and timeline alignment, assesses resource requirements, develops milestone and success metrics, monitors program progress and outcomes, and evaluates program success.</p> <p>The AA will work closely with all stakeholders, including government and academic partners, project reviewers and mentors, startup companies and academic teams, and will be the primary communication liaison for fund administration, mentors and mentees that are within the program.</p> <p>The AA reports directly to and receives assignments from the CTV Director Business Development, Portfolio Management & L2M Network and will also work closely with other stakeholders within CTV & Columbia University.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>In consultation with the Director, CTV Business Development, Portfolio Management & L2M Network, and working closely with Business Development team members and various leads for accelerator programs:</p> <ul> <li> <p>L2M Alliance Associate and coordination with CTV Business Development</p> </li><li> <p>Managing alliance partnerships up and across functions and levels to ensure alignment and collaboration throughout the project development cycle</p> </li><li> <p>Planning, coordination and execution of alliance projects and activities (e.g. program planning and execution, creation and tracking of project plans and reports, developing and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders and external parties, etc.).</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitating and advancing project planning and execution, ensuring projects maintain momentum towards identified milestones.</p> </li><li> <p>Organizing, onboarding, and offering continued support to internal and external partners, and managing the logistics of administration and partner engagements.</p> </li><li> <p>Identifying project risks or points of disagreement and addressing in a time-sensitive manner, engaging leadership as needed. The approach taken in each situation is driven by a commitment to transforming obstacles into opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Organizing events designed to engage program applicants and stakeholders.</p> </li><li> <p>Bootcamps and Additional Programmatic Support</p> </li><li> <p>Serves as L2M's project and program manager in planning and execution of various logistical aspects of bootcamp support and prompt responding to inquiries coming directly from accelerator administrators.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides logistical and operational support for developing, launching, and managing new commercialization programs for L2M, CTV, and beyond.</p> </li><li> <p>Alumni Support Beyond Validation Bootcamp Programs</p> </li><li> <p>Drives development, marketing and execution of programming to supplement L2M accelerators, including business operations intensives, SBIR/STTR workshops, and other activities relevant to L2M alumni teams as they continue validating and scaling up commercialization of their research.</p> </li><li> <p>Strategic planning</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborates with the L2M Director to develop and execute the short-, medium-, and long- term strategy elements for the L2M team and its programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Outward Communication and Marketing</p> </li><li> <p>In collaboration with L2M Program Manager, develops and disseminates relevant information about L2M, its programming and alumni teams to effectively highlight their accomplishments and attract additional partnership, collaboration, and funding opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Event Planning & Scheduling Support</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with managing site logistics of events related to L2M activities, including seminars, bootcamp sessions, showcases, and panel discussions on topics related to innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, etc. This will include ensuring the room and A/V are setup, RSVP software, invitations, coordinating videography, handouts and signage, and organizing any catering needs.</p> </li><li> <p>L2M Student Venture Associates and summer interns</p> </li><li> <p>Assists in recruitment and, onboarding Columbia and Barnard students to support individual accelerator team/program needs and ongoing L2M core administrative projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Miscellaneous additional responsibilities</p> </li><li> <p>Performs additional roles and responsibilities as needed and requested by L2M Director.</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent minimum 2- 3 years of related experience required. </li><li>Excellent writing skills, with passion for science and technology, and familiarity and comfort with technical/scientific language. </li><li>Exceptional organizational skills and high attention to detail. Must demonstrate the ability to multi-task and be responsive to the needs of multiple internal and external constituents. </li><li>Proven experience of effective Project and Program Management (PM), preferable across diverse stakeholders. PM certification a plus. </li><li>Experience formatting professional internal and public facing documents and presentations to stakeholders, including MS PowerPoint, Canva, and similar presentation software products. </li><li>Positive outlook, enthusiasm, self-motivated and high energy. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>1-3 years of relevant project and alliance management experience. </li><li>Able to exercise mature judgment, discretion, and tact, referring questions and issues, as appropriate. </li><li>Previous experience developing marketing and communications materials, ideally for technology-oriented products and services. </li><li>Willing and able to adhere to and uphold University policies and standard operating practices of the Office. </li><li>Must possess a 'can-do, whatever it takes, results-driven' attitude to getting the job done.
