<p>Job Summary: This Colo-rectal Surgeon candidate will be specializing in</p> <p>management of surgical disease of the colon and rectum. This</p> <p>includes surgical management of malignancy, inflammatory disease,</p> <p>infection, and a multitude of acquired disorders. While simple</p> <p>removal and reconnection of the colon falls into the competency list of</p> <p>a general surgeon, more complex procedures involving removal of</p> <p>the entire colon and rectum, removal of a very distal portion of the</p> <p>sigmoid colon, removal of the rectum and creation of pouched and</p> <p>specialty colonic reconstruction, require extra training which would be</p> <p>provided by a colorectal surgery fellowship (1-2 years). Common</p> <p>diseases of the anal area and distal rectum (i.e. hemorrhoids, fistula,</p> <p>and sinus tracts) are also felt to be best managed by a trained</p> <p>colo-rectal surgeon.
