<p>The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University is seeking a Part-time Instructor to teach one 3-credit section(s) of LIN 374 and/or LIN 381/681 in the fall 2025 semester, which begins on August 25, 2025 (appointment begins on August 18, 2025). Offer is contingent upon sufficient enrollment.</p> <p>LIN 374 - Topics in Sociolinguistics; 3 credits</p> <p>Functions of language in society. Geographical, socioeconomic, and male-female differentiation. Functions of various types of speech events.</p> <p>LIN 381/681 - Global Communication Through World Englishes; 3 credits</p> <p>World Englishes pose unique challenges for linguists, language pedagogues, business leaders, communication experts, and researchers in intercultural/ international communication. Various topics reflecting these challenges are presented.</p> <p>The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per credit rate history within the hiring department.</p> <p>All positions and offers are subject to funding availability and enrollment.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Ph.D. in Linguistics or related field required. </li><li>Experience in university-level teaching preferred. </li></ul> <p>Job Specific Qualifications</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>It is understood that teaching assignments may include:</p> <ul> <li>Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. </li><li>Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date. </li><li>Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments. </li><li>Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week. </li><li>Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class. </li><li>Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.
