<p>Description</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>The Cook/Youth Care Worker I is responsible for the preparation of meals and snacks for the cottages where they are assigned and assisting other cottage staff in the supervision and support of cottage residents.</p> <p>Responsibilities also include menu planning, purchasing of food and supplies in compliance with ISBE requirements; assure maintenance of proper hygiene in food preparation and equipment.</p> <p>KEY RESPONSIBLITIES AND FUNCTIONS</p> <ol> <li> <p>Prepares nutritious and attractive meals and snacks, according to the menus provided, that meets state health standards, food service regulations, ISBE standards, and supervisory directives.</p> </li><li> <p>Plans and orders food and related supplies for meal preparation, including menus for evening and weekend meals that are prepared by staff on duty.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares special meals at various holidays and special events throughout the year</p> </li><li> <p>Assures proper storage of all food items; disposes of unused food at expiration date or an appropriate.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains hygienic conditions in kitchen and dining area and cleans all major appliances at least weekly.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides direction and oversight to cottage residents to assist them to develop cooking and cleaning skills in accordance with their capacity. Respond to behavioral issues when they occur. May be required to participate in client restraint.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains accurate records in accordance with agency policy and in compliance with state requirements.</p> </li><li> <p>Assumes other related tasks as required by the Supervisory and Administrative staff</p> </li></ol> <p>Requirements</p> <p>EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE</p> <ol> <li> <p>High school diploma or G.E.D.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be at least 21 years of age.</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess and retain a valid Illinois driver's license.</p> </li><li> <p>The skills and experience to plan prepare and provide healthy, appealing meals. Job Description: DEPARTMENT: REPORTS TO: 2 5. The personal characteristics and experiential background that promotes appropriate care for children and helps residents achieve emotional stability and to develop social and other life skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Basic skills in first aid and the identification of medical needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Possess, or be able to obtain, a Food Service Sanitation certification through Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) within 90 days of employment</p> </li></ol>
