<p>Description</p> <p>Title: Academic Support Specialist</p> <p>Position Number: 0079827</p> <p>Hiring Unit: College of Arts, Languages & Letters, School of Pacific & Asian Studies, Center for Korean Studies</p> <p>Location: University of Hawaii at Manoa</p> <p>Date Posted: May 30, 2025</p> <p>Closing Date: June 16, 2025</p> <p>Band: A</p> <p>Salary : Salary schedules and placement information</p> <p>Full Time/Part Time: Full-time</p> <p>Month: 11-month</p> <p>Temporary/Permanent: Permanent</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>*Under the direction of the Director of the Center for Korean Studies (CKS), perform a wide variety of programmatic support functions for the operations of the Center. </li><li>Coordinates and plans the Center's academic and general-interest public programs, including but not limited to the colloquium series, community lecture series, conferences, exhibitions and outreach programs. </li><li>*Administers the various programs managed by CKS such as the Visiting Scholar Program, Student Scholarship Program, and the Research Grants Program. </li><li>Responsible for coordinating/facilitating the review of applications, correspondence with relevant parties (visitors, students, faculty, etc.), processing visa and/or disbursement of funds and orienting scholars for CKS programs. </li><li>*Serves as point of contact for questions regarding Center-related issues concerning the University of Hawaii Foundation (UHF) accounts, Visiting Scholars, Student Scholarship, and Faculty Research Grants Programs. </li><li>*Responsible for processing personnel transactions for the Centers. </li><li>*Assist Principal Investigators (PI) with preparing, reviewing and submitting CKS grant proposals to funding agencies, working in coordination with CALL Business Office and Office of Research Services. </li><li>*Conducts monthly account reconciliations. Prepares budget status reports for the Center Director as necessary. </li><li>*Reviews UHF accounts, anticipates spending trends, and adjusts UHF budgets accordingly. </li><li>Serves as back up to the Administrative and Fiscal Support Specialist, as needed. </li><li>*In consultation with the Center Director develops annual UHF budget based on annual endowment distributions for each program account. </li><li>*Prepares, reviews and audits fiscal and procurement documents in accordance with applicable UHF, The Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii (RCUH), and external funds policies and regulations. </li><li>*Assist the Center Director with coordination and development of the CKS portion of the National Research Council (NRC) grant. </li><li>*Works outside normally scheduled work hours, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays, as directed. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li><li>Denotes essential functions </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, or related field and 0 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for event or program coordination; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. </li><li>Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of event or program coordination demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology. </li><li>Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with event or program coordination. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of event or program coordination. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software. </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to read communications/correspondences and effectively communicate with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals in Korean. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work with individuals and or groups from diverse cultural environments or backgrounds. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to assist with organizing conferences, symposia, and outreach events. </li><li>Experience working in an institution of higher education. </li><li>Familiarity with Human Resources Information Systems (PeopleSoft, NeoGov, Online Leave, etc.). </li><li>Familiarity with UH (Kuali, eTravel, etc.), RCUH, and/or UHF Financial systems and policies and procedures. </li></ul> <p>To Apply:</p> <p>Click on the "Apply" button on the top right corner of the screen to complete an application and attach the following required documents:</p> <ul> <li>A cover letter indicating how you satisfy the minimum and desirable qualifications, </li><li>Current resume, </li><li>Official transcripts (copies acceptable for application, but if selected, originals transcripts required upon hire), </li><li>Names of three (3) professional references (including phone number and e-mail addresses). </li></ul> <p>Note: Please create a new account if this is your first time applying for a position using NEOGOV</p> <p>Inquiries: Christopher J.
