<p>The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) is seeking to fill a Criminal Justice Trainer 4 (CJT4) position. This position serves as subject matter expert (SME), lead instructor, logistics coordinator, and point of contact for advanced Firearms courses. In this critical role, you will uphold WSCJTC's mission to establish legally defensible, scientifically valid training. Our diversity and inclusion efforts include embracing different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives while fostering growth and advancement in the workplace. </p> <p>Duties Include (but are not limited to):</p> <ul> <li>Represent WSCJTC modeling professionalism communicating with tact and diplomacy. </li><li>This position must use influential leadership to make recommendations in areas with which they have no direct control such as facility upgrades, instructor feedback, evaluation of equipment or training tactics, or incumbent officer evaluation. Serve as SME in advanced firearms training and primary trainer of WSCJTC advanced firearms trainers. </li><li>Oversee and serve as lead trainer of advanced firearms courses to include but not limited to handgun level 1 & 2, advanced carbine, shotgun, pistol & carbine optics, course recertifications and future advanced training courses to be developed. </li><li>Oversee and direct training delivery by subordinate state employee and contract instructors for incumbent peace officers within the advanced firearms instructor certification programs. </li><li>Document feedback and evaluation of courses statewide for use by the Firearms Program when recommendations are needed for changes to curriculum, policy, procedure, or programmatic updates. </li><li>Collaborate with internal teams such as WSCJTC Curriculum, Audit, Policy & Accreditation teams as well as the Basic Firearms Program and external law enforcement partners. </li><li>Evaluate and audit instruction by subordinates and supplemental contractors to ensure that the instructor staff possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully deliver WSCJTC approved curriculum and does so to agency standard. </li><li>Monitor and evaluate incumbent officer student performance to ensure standards are met. </li><li>Liaise with agency partners to share incumbent officer student performance challenges, recommendations for remedial training, and/or additional training support by the home agency. </li><li>As the range SME, provide facility recommendations to enhance health and safety. </li><li>Ensure facility safety procedures are maintained and followed. Oversee, stress the importance of, and ensure safety procedures on the range are adhered to by all students and instructors. </li><li>Identify and alert partner agency representatives of facility maintenance requirements or deficiencies and safety concerns that are not in alignment with industry's best practices. </li><li>Serve as a subject matter expert, ensuring the basic and advanced course curriculum align and meet industry best practice standards for safety, tactics, and decision making based on RCW/WAC, and the AG Use of Force Model policy. </li><li>Participate in firearms curriculum update committees to provide and receive information and feedback from internal and external partner certified instructors on curriculum as best practices evolve and legal mandates change. </li><li>Evaluate curriculum change proposals to ensure they align with training at the basic level for the advanced firearms program and are in keeping with safety policy and procedure and risk mitigation strategies. Collaborate with the Risk team as necessary. </li><li>Ensure all injuries are reported and documented following the injury report process. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications/Experience:</p> <ul> <li>At least eight (8) years of experience as a law enforcement peace officer or military in an assignment that may require the application of physical force, and specifically utilization and training in firearms. </li></ul> <p>OR </p> <ul> <li>At least ten years experience as a trainer of criminal justice professionals (peace officers) specifically in the area of firearms. </li></ul> <p>AND </p> <ul> <li>Current WSCJTC Firearms Instructor Certification or similar (WA state certification, F.L.E.T.C. certification or another state law enforcement firearms instructor certification, military firearms instructors' certification) with ability to pass agency specific certification within one month of hire. </li><li>Five years of experience serving as a SME and/or lead on project management and curriculum development teams. </li><li>Five years of first level supervisor experience (law enforcement or military). </li><li>Demonstrate positive interpersonal and strong customer service skills that are necessary to establish and foster effective working relationships with internal and external partners, and the public. </li><li>Quality problem solving skills including analysis and strategy. </li><li>Strong work ethic, self-directed, and able to work in a team-teaching environment. </li><li>Demonstrate comfort with working in fast-paced environment with shifting and often competing priorities. </li><li>Effective communication and public speaking experience. </li><li>No sustained use of force complaints for the past three years. </li><li>Complaints within the last three years must be satisfactorily explained. </li><li>Adherence to agencies vision, mission, and values. </li></ul> <p>Preferred/Desired Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, organizational management or leadership, communications, or similar degree plan. </li><li>Understanding of and/or experience with WSCJTC protocols and chain of command. </li><li>Recent experience with Basic Law Enforcement Academy training. </li><li>WSCJTC Instructor Development - 2 (ID2) certification. </li><li>Two years' experience in implementing training programs, including hands-on training, specific to peace officer personnel (FTO/PTO experience meets this requirement). </li><li>Skills for basic computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite. </li><li>Knowledge of WA State purchase and procurement procedures. </li><li>Public relations experience. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:</p> <p>Must submit to required lead level and hearing testing.</p> <p>How to Apply:</p> <p>Applications for this recruitment will be accepted electronically through NeoGov.
