<p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>Department:</p> <p>World Language</p> <p>Job Title:</p> <p>Russian Teacher</p> <p>FLSA Status:</p> <p>(Exempt/Non-exempt)</p> <p>Exempt; Unit A</p> <p>Reports to:</p> <p>High School Principal, World Language Dept. Chair</p> <p>GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):</p> <p>The Russian teacher is responsible for delivering the curriculum at various levels through an immersion-type environment as well as for assessing student learning. The teacher is also expected to maintain open communication with parents and counselors/housemasters, contribute to the regular functioning and development of the World Language Department, attend meetings for students and teachers, attend to administrative duties, and fulfill other responsibilities/duties as a member of the broader community.</p> <p>This is a 0.25FTE</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's or Master's Degree </li><li>Appropriate DESE teaching license </li><li>Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues including, but not limited to meeting the learning needs of a diverse student body, split-second decision making, creative delivery of content, navigating technology, and anti-bullying curriculum instruction. </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Russian </li><li>Ability to use technology effectively </li></ul> <p>DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>The World Language Department seeks a teacher who:</p> <ul> <li>Uses the target language for general instruction </li><li>Can utilize the offerings of our digital language lab </li><li>Has experience with people and customs from other cultures </li><li>Commands strong content knowledge of grammar and vocabulary outside of textbook structures </li><li>Commands knowledge of literature and other aspects of Russian culture </li><li>Is flexible </li><li>Can teach multiple grade and curriculum levels </li><li>Is willing to share with other department members what he/she knows, is collegial with other department members </li><li>Believes in helping all students to help them achieve their potential, including minority and low socio-economic students </li><li>Can implement modifications and accommodations required by an IEP </li><li>Has knowledge of the new Massachusetts Teacher Evaluation System </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):</p> <ul> <li>Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students. </li><li>Plan and deliver lessons using a variety of strategies </li><li>Develop a variety of assessments to evaluate student learning </li><li>Recommend students for placement </li><li>Write a variety of student-related reports (teacher comments, college recommendations, IEP assessments) </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson and assessment design </li><li>Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents and the community </li><li>Perform Homeroom and Study Hall Duties </li><li>Attend departmental and school-wide meetings </li><li>Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students </li><li>Other duties as needed </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Work Environment:</p> <p>Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for afterschool meetings (ex: Back to School Night). Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Rarely absent or late unless the situation is of an emergency nature.</p> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The teacher is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The teacher must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building.</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
