<p>This is an exciting multi-trade inspector opportunity within the City of Raleigh's Building and Safety Division of the Panning and Development Department. Multi-trade inspectors perform inspections during various stages of residential construction projects. Our inspectors make sure all work meets North Carolina state code requirements for the building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing trades. Our inspectors make sure that all work meets state code requirements for the building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing trades. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Performs building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing field inspections of residential projects</p> </li><li> <p> Responds to information requests and inquiries; provides technical advice to City staff, design professionals, the public, and other project stakeholders; provides interpretation of building codes and ordinances and those associated with applicable trade(s) specialty</p> </li><li> <p> Performs code-related research; identifies trade code compliance issues; provides alternative solutions to resolve issues</p> </li><li> <p> Prepares and maintains reports, records, data, and documentation related to inspections, plans review, research, and other project reviews</p> </li><li> <p> Plans and prioritizes schedule and field activities; maintains communication with property owners, other inspectors, and stakeholders to coordinate and facilitate inspection work</p> </li><li> <p> Identifies, develops, implement, and maintains processes and practices that encourage, support, and promote effective, comprehensive, and meaningful citizen engagement</p> </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <p>High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; 1 to 3 years' experience in residential/commercial construction inspection, construction or related work</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted</p> <p>Licenses and Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire </li><li>Level I certification in at least two of the following: Plumbing Inspection, Mechanical Inspection, Electrical Inspection, Building Inspector </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Techniques and methods for organizing, prioritizing, assigning, and monitoring work</p> </li><li> <p>Principles, practices, and methods of specialized trade work of assigned area</p> </li><li> <p> Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices</p> </li><li> <p> Uses and properties of supplies and equipment</p> </li><li> <p> Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations (based on assignment)</p> </li><li> <p> Customer service principles</p> </li></ul> <p>Skill in:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Coordinating deadlines, prioritizing work demands, and monitoring work performed</p> </li><li> <p>Performing inspections and reviewing plans to determine building code compliance</p> </li><li> <p>Performing basic original research, compiling, and assembling data</p> </li><li> <p>Identifying alternate solutions to building code compliance issues</p> </li><li> <p>Providing interpretation and technical advice related to regulations and trade specialty area</p> </li><li> <p>Organizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing competing demands</p> </li><li> <p>Organizing and maintaining records and files</p> </li><li> <p>Maintaining and updating data and documentation</p> </li><li> <p> Comprehending reference books and manuals</p> </li><li> <p>Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards</p> </li><li> <p> Providing customer service</p> </li><li> <p> Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications</p> </li><li> <p> Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction</p> </li></ul> <p>ADA and Other Requirements:</p> <p>Physical Effort:</p> <p>Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.</p> <p>Work Environment:</p> <p>Work is typically performed in an outdoor environment, at a construction site and in and around vehicles. Employees may occasionally work in an office or similar indoor environment, near moving traffic, and in confined spaces.</p> <p>Work Exposure:</p> <p>There is frequent exposure to fumes and airborne particles and loud noises.
