The Dental Hygienist provides professional dental hygiene care under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist. This position is responsible for Dental prophylaxis, examining patients for oral diseases, taking and developing dental radiographs, and educating patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health. The hygienist supports the clinical team by facilitating communication between the dentist and patients, maintaining documentation, and ensuring all duties are performed in accordance with the standard of care for licensed Dental Hygienists in West Virginia.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Conduct patient screening procedures, including assessment of oral health conditions, review of health history, oral cancer screenings, head and neck inspections, and dental charting. </li><li>Facilitate clear and accurate communication between the dentist and the patient or legal guardian regarding clinical findings, treatment plans, and oral health education. </li><li>Perform dental radiographs (x-rays) in compliance with clinical and safety, and ADA standards. </li><li>Remove calculus, plaque, and stains from teeth and beneath the gumline using appropriate dental instruments. </li><li>Apply preventive treatments such as sealants, SDF (Silver-Diamine Fluoride), and topical fluoride to protect teeth from decay. </li><li>Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing and flossing, nutrition, tobacco cessation, and motivational interviewing. </li><li>Maintain detailed and accurate clinical documentation and assist with office management activities as needed. </li><li>If licensed for expanded functions (state-specific), perform additional authorized tasks such as administering local anesthetics or operating under general supervision. </li><li>Completing annual Continued Education to stay compliant with current licensing requirements. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications and Education Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Degree from an accredited Dental Hygiene program. </li><li>Current and valid state license to practice Dental Hygiene in West Virginia. </li><li>Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience preferred. </li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. </li><li>Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially in urgent or emergency situations. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to patient care and customer service excellence. </li></ul>
