<p>Job Description</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>Behavioral Health Counselor - MS (PRN)</p> <p>Location: Gateway Plaza, Indiana University Health</p> <p>Shift: PRN (Flexible, As Needed)</p> <p>Join Our Dedicated Behavioral Health Team!</p> <p>Indiana University Health is seeking a compassionate and experienced Master's Degree Counselor to provide vital mental health services through a flexible, PRN schedule at Gateway Plaza. This role is integral to delivering comprehensive mental health assessments, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and protective services coordination.</p> <p>Position Overview:</p> <p>The Behavioral Health Counselor will:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Facilitate patient involvement in treatment and educational activities</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based practices (CBT, MI, DBT)</p> </li><li> <p>Perform utilization reviews and assist with complex discharge planning to ensure safe, timely patient care transitions</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate services and support</p> </li><li> <p>Assess psychosocial risk factors, including prior functioning, support systems, and coping mechanisms</p> </li><li> <p>Provide emotional, social, and financial counseling to patients and families</p> </li><li> <p>Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet identified needs</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral</p> </li><li> <p>Support crisis intervention and de-escalation efforts in high-stress or potentially dangerous situations</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as a liaison for child abuse/neglect, domestic violence, and protective services teams</p> </li><li> <p>Intervene in guardianship, foster care, adoption, and placement processes as needed</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications & Requirements:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Education: Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field from an accredited institution</p> </li><li> <p>Experience: 3-5 years of relevant healthcare, mental health, or community-based experience preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Licensure: Current Indiana license in one of the following: LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC, or HSPP</p> </li><li> <p>Certifications:</p> </li><li> <p>Crisis intervention certification required within 90 days of hire</p> </li><li> <p>BLS certification required within 30 days of hire</p> </li><li> <p>Skills & Knowledge:</p> </li><li> <p>Proven experience in healthcare, mental health, or community settings</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of disease impact and human behavioral responses</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with evidence-based practices (CBT, MI, DBT)</p> </li><li> <p>Understanding of legal mandates related to child and adult protective services</p> </li><li> <p>Strong grasp of growth, development, and end-of-life principles</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to create and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and MS Office applications</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent relationship-building skills with community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and healthcare providers</p> </li></ul> <p>Core Competencies:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Effective communication and active listening</p> </li><li> <p>Crisis management and de-escalation techniques</p> </li><li> <p>Collaboration within multidisciplinary teams</p> </li><li> <p>Maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance</p> </li><li> <p>Compassionate, culturally sensitive approach to care</p> </li></ul> <p>Why Join IU Health?</p> <p>This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by providing vital mental health, crisis, and protective services.
