<p>Learns a few simple signs as duties are performed while working with nonverbal or hearing impaired students. Attends building meetings, staffings, inservices, and case conferences when requested to discuss needs and concerns regarding students. Adapts to the differing needs of the students. Is punctual and flexible when carrying out duties. Follows daily schedules and performs duties as determined by the classroom teacher. Assists the teacher by providing instruction, tutoring, and supervising individuals and small groups. Keeps teacher abreast of students' instructional needs. Assures confidentiality of student behavior, records, and communications. Refers all parent inquiries to the teacher. Assists with behavior managements and learns appropriate strategies and techniques (including CPI when needed). May escort students to and from various rooms and support them in the general education setting. Assists with supervision of students in the lunchroom, library, music, P.E., assemblies, arrivals, departures, halls, etc. Adheres to professional expectations and school rules. Have knowledge of computer programs specific to individual classrooms, and create or adapt necessary curricular materials for students. Operates standard school equipment such as computer, laminator, etc. Assists with classroom preparations and clerical duties. Implements IEP goals under the supervision of the classroom teacher. Maintains classroom routines, supervises students, and continues to reinforce instruction as directed by the teacher when the teacher is out of the room for case conferences. Appreciates the importance of consistency of classroom instruction and complies with corporation attendance policies, staying within sick day limits. Lift at least 50 lbs. individually and/or assist with movement of students over that weight. Understands and is aware of the medical needs of students and assists as appropriate. Feeds and/or helps students feed themselves and helps monitor students' dietary needs. Assists students with toileting and personal hygiene. Assists with sanitation of the room and equipment. Assists with loading and unloading of students on the buses. Assists with range of motion and positioning, after training, under supervision of the Physical Therapist. Escorts students on educational trips and community-based outings outside the classroom with the teacher and/or other certified personnel. Learns how to assist with the use of positioning equipment such as standers, walkers, and wheelchairs.</p>
