<p>General Summary & Essential Responsibilities</p> <p>Join Our Team as a Fire Inspector!</p> <p>Play a vital role in protecting our community by ensuring the safety of new and existing buildings throughout the County. As a Fire Prevention Inspector, you'll use your technical expertise to enforce fire safety codes, review building plans, and work closely with contractors, homeowners, and local businesses to promote a safe environment for all.</p> <p>What You'll Do:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ensure Fire Code Compliance: Review building construction plans and specifications to verify compliance with County fire prevention codes, laws, and ordinances.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct Field Inspections: Inspect commercial and residential construction and remodels-including schools, businesses, restaurants, daycares, churches, retirement facilities, theatres, and more-to ensure adherence to fire safety standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluate Public Assembly Safety: Assess buildings for fire hazards, verify proper operation of fire protection equipment, and ensure adequate exit routes. Education, Licenses and Certifications</p> <p>Minimum Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED required. </li><li>Experience in building and construction inspection, plan review, fire science or related field preferred. </li><li>Or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education, and experience. </li></ul> <p>Licenses and/or Certificates:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. </li><li>Must possess and maintain Florida Municipal Fire Safety Inspector I certification. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <p>Who You Are</p> <p>You are a knowledgeable and detail-oriented fire safety professional with a strong command of fire safety laws, regulations, and the County Fire Prevention Code. You bring a solid understanding of fire prevention principles, building construction practices, and the dynamics of the fire service. Your expertise allows you to identify fire hazards, investigate code violations, and recommend effective corrective measures that keep the community safe.</p> <p>You are skilled at reading and interpreting construction plans, diagrams, and blueprints, quickly spotting deviations or potential issues at any stage of installation or construction. Your keen eye for workmanship, paired with your understanding of materials and methods, enables you to detect unsafe conditions and guide others toward compliant solutions.</p> <p>You exercise sound judgment when interpreting and enforcing codes and policies, and you manage your workload efficiently-setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and maintaining accurate documentation. You communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms, offering guidance and exceptional customer service to colleagues, contractors, and the public.</p> <p>Reliable and professional, you build strong working relationships, utilize standard office software with ease, and confidently operate a motor vehicle to perform fieldwork.
