<p>Join the City of Reno and become part of an amazing team that strives every day to make our community a place we are all proud to call home.</p> <p>The ideal candidate in this position will be responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating the operations and staff of an assigned recreation or community services program area. This may include aquatics, indoor recreation centers, member services, special events, youth services, or outdoor recreation and athletics. The position ensures effective service delivery, adherence to policies and safety standards, sound fiscal management, and exceptional customer service. </p> <p>This is a supervisory-level position responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned recreation programs and facilities. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in program operations, staffing, budgeting, and service delivery, and is accountable for program outcomes. </p> <p>We currently have one vacancy in the Parks & Recreation Department in which hiring will begin immediately following the close of this recruitment. This commitment is an integral part of our efforts to ensure that we have a diverse and representative workforce that serves the community of Reno.</p> <ul> <li>Plans, organizes, supervises, and participates in the operations of assigned recreation or community service programs </li><li>Develops revenue and program goals, procedures, and service delivery methods; recommends and implements operational improvements. </li><li>Oversees program budgets; monitors expenditures and revenues; prepares reports and budget recommendations. </li><li>Oversees initiatives that support member retention, satisfaction, sales, and community engagement across assigned facilities and programs. </li><li>Coordinates and oversees special events, cultural programs, and recreational activities, including marketing and public outreach. </li><li>Oversees facility scheduling, program registration, and customer-facing operations to ensure accessibility and service quality. </li><li>Oversees contracted recreation programs and services; monitors contractor performance and compliance with agreements. </li><li>Supports fundraising, grant development, and alternative funding efforts; ensures compliance with grant requirements. </li><li>Monitors operational data and prepares reports related to participation levels, staffing coverage, and program effectiveness. </li><li>Prepares budgets, monitors expenditures and revenues, and makes adjustments to ensure expectations are met. </li><li>Responds to and resolves complex or sensitive customer inquiries, complaints, and operational issues. </li><li>Prepares reports, marketing materials, staff reports, and related documentation. </li><li>Represents the City with community groups, partner agencies, and stakeholders; builds collaborative relationships. </li><li>Ensures programs and facilities comply with applicable laws, safety standards, and departmental policies. </li><li>Performs related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>The following minimum qualifications are required to be met at the time of application.</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, leisure studies, public administration, business administration, or related field. </li><li>Each year of additional relevant work experience will substitute for one year of the education requirement. </li></ul> <p>Work Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Four years of experience in the coordination of recreation programs including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory responsibility. </li></ul> <p>License:</p> <ul> <li>Valid driver's license </li></ul> <p>Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.</p> <p>To Apply:</p> <p> Please submit your completed application and all additional information/documentation requested online at www.reno.gov/jobs by March 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. PT. Résumés may be submitted as supplemental information but will not be reviewed when determining minimum qualifications.</p> <p>Examination Process:</p> <p>Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and pass the examination for this position to be eligible for hire. The examination will consist of online assessments, which include a Cognitive Abilities Test and a Customer Service Aptitude Profile, along with a Training and Experience evaluation (T&E) weighted as follows:</p> <p>Training & Experience Evaluation (T&E) = 70%</p> <p>Cognitive Abilities Test = 30% </p> <p>Customer Service Aptitude Profile = Informational purposes only</p> <p>Online Assessment Details:</p> <p>Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the online assessments once the recruitment has closed. These tests will be self-administered with no proctor, which means candidates will be able to complete them online at their convenience during the designated testing window.</p> <p>The instructions and guidelines will be emailed to qualified applicants after the recruitment closes on March 15, 2026. Please make sure to check for emails around this time, including your spam folder, so that you do not miss this testing opportunity. All assessments must be completed within the designated testing window to move forward in the hiring process.</p> <p>Training and Experience Evaluation (T&E) Details:</p> <p>The T&E examination consists of a Supplemental Questionnaire. The questions may be viewed online under the tab marked "QUESTIONS" on the job announcement page. The T&E must be submitted online at the time of application. </p> <ul> <li>Responses to your T&E questions should be consistent with the information given in your application details. Answers are subject to verification. </li><li>Failure to complete all of the questions or incomplete responses will result in a lower score; therefore, it is advantageous for you to provide a full and complete response to each supplemental question. </li><li>In order to receive credit for education or training, you must attach copies of your transcripts, diploma, or relevant certificates to your online application. </li><li>Resumes or questionnaires uploaded as attachments to the application will not be accepted in lieu of completing each question online. </li><li>"See Resume" or "See above," etc., are not qualifying responses and will not be considered. </li><li>Changes or corrections to your responses cannot be made once your application packet has been submitted. </li><li>TIP: It may be more efficient to develop your responses in a word processing document and then paste them into the online questionnaire to be submitted. </li></ul> <p>Notification: </p> <p>Applicants are notified by email of their examination results. Scores resulting from a competitive examination are used in determining a person's rank on an eligible register. The department may hire any of the persons referred.
